The more I think about it, the crazier the idea looks. Boeing, the jewel of aviation industry, is building planes on the Chinese soil. The machinery, blueprints, material, know-how, computers, etc. etc are under Chinese control. Trump would never allow that. How long before they start building them themselves? At the same time that you got this crazy system going, you have to secure an export license to sell a game console abroad.
They are a private company. Why would the U.S. government have any say in where they build planes?
Furthermore, it is not uncommon for companies to have factories in countries/regions to produce products that are intended for that country/region. Do you think it makes sense for Boeing to build every plane in the U.S. and then transport them to the countries that purchased them, or to build the planes in those countries to begin with? You see this a lot in the car business. Ford, for example, has factories overseas that produce cars that will never be seen in the U.S.

The plane being built is the Boeing 737. Nothing to see there.
Boeing is for now the world's largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft. There is no shortage of aggressive foreign competition. Airbus / EU is #2.
China's population is more than 4X that of the US. China is poised to become the world's leading country for passenger air traffic, given they have 1 BILLION + more people than the US.
Airbus broke ground this year on their second assembly plant in China.
There are 200 commercial aircraft orders from China in the Boeing pipeline. Boeing is building a finishing plant in China whereby the interiors will be finished and exteriors painted in China.
Boeing is NOT manufacturing aircraft in China.
Guess Boeing could have put their foot down and refused to allow China to finish the planes manufactured in the US. I am sure Airbus or any of the other multinational airliner manufacturers would be delighted to accommodate China's needs, going forward.
Maybe Boeing could just consentrate on US business and close plants and lay off tens of thousands, while the other multinationals divvy up what was once the Boeing pie. Yeah, that sounds like a plan.
It's a non-issue. Let President-elect Cheeto say a few more things and Boeing won't have to worry about making aircraft in China, since they'll shift their purchase to Airbus.

Indeed.
Airbus must breakout the bubbly and do the happy dance every time Trump opens his mouth about trade.
