It would've cost the tax payers more if Carrier continued the lay offs on welfare...unemployment benefits for 700 people for 13 weeks alone is 4 million. Then think of the food stamps and Medicaid, subsidies, etc it will be over the 7m in tax breaks...and lost income and payroll tax on those 700 workers. It's a win win... only for Trump haters it's not

Yes, $7 million coming from State of Indiana taxpayers, given to Carrier.

If those employees got laid off - they would be required to look for other jobs and most would find other jobs, since they are located near Indianapolis which has lots of jobs.

If they didn't find other jobs, the max number of weeks they can collect unemployment in Indiana is 26 weeks at $390/week max. This is a lot less money than $7 million, especially when you consider that the money from unemployment insurance doesn't come out of the Indiana taxpayer's pockets. Instead, it comes out of the umemployment insurance fund which is funded by companies by state law. Also consider that some of them would get another job and wouldn't collect for the entire 6 months.

The $7 million payment to Carrier isn't fair to other companies in Indiana that still have on-site manufacturing. They are paying that $7 million from their company instead of getting a $7 million corporate welfare payment from Indiana. That's a $7 million favor to Carrier that the other companies didn't get. Some are small companies that aren't publicly traded and that $7million would have allowed them to grow and increase number of jobs. But instead, only carrier got free government money.

I didn't read through all the posts, but isn't the point that Boeing was never building anything, they were getting paid to design all the special features that air force one requires.

So are they going to do that for other companies, Rexford is moving to Mexico and taking 300 jobs with it, will they give them tax breaks to have them remain here. If their competitors can make a less expensive product from Mexico how do they compete in the long run. Providing tax breaks to prop up companies is very limited short term solution.

Do you really want the government stepping into the free market in this fashion.
