I'm confused by the term "Native American" because the tribes scattered all around this country were not "American" to begin with, but became American once European settlers created America as we know it.
So in fact, it is the founding Europeans and their ancestors who should be labeled "Native Americans."
Around here all the Casinos and tribal signs say " Indian", so I'll go by that.
This is an interesting thread and all, but anyone who's ever personally known any Indians knows that they call themselves "Indians," and tend not to trust white people who come onto the Res calling them Native Americans. These are either government people or white people who bemoan the fact that the indians don't dress in feathers and dance around the fire anymore, who ask a lot of stupid questions about their private lives that is none of their business, and who are thrilled to be given some ridiculous "indian name."
Its all a big joke in indian communities. Just ask Faith Spotted Eagle.

Wouldn't "Native Peoples" be more accurate?
How about "squatters". We bought the land and they refused to leave.
Actually, there is archeological evidence that both the Australian Aborigines and European Solutreans were here long before the Asiatic transplants made it.

The key word in your statement is theory , many theories have been debunked as time passes . I don't have a problem with wherever we all came from . For many years there was a dinosaur skeleton assembled & it was accepted as real & even named a certain name dinosaur until it was found that it was actually bones put together from two different dinosaurs . Time to start over . Many definitive studies that have been accepted turns out to be incorrect .
There is such a large difference in different races of people that I have doubts that we were at one time all one . We do resemble one another in ways but are also very different in ways . Anythings possible .
It is more plausible that all races have a common origin and afterwards became different in appearance.
The concept that races are different because they have separate independent origins is much less plausible (highly improbable).
All dogs trace their ancestry to the wolf. And dogs are very different from each other.
