When you attack legitimate news organizations, you attack our country and its democracy. Without a free press, there is no democracy.
Criticize, yes. Pick out a news article and point out where it's wrong, citing factual authority. That's criticism.
To make a blanket statement is an attack against the free press. We need a press that holds politicians' feet to the fire, does investigations, and reports what no one wants reported. That is what separates our country from a dictatorship or party-controlled government like Russia.
If Trump and his cronies go overboard on attacking the press, he'll be run out of office.
"When you attack legitimate news organizations,"
The problem is there AREN'T anymore left!
".....he'll be run out of office."
Just like all who claimed he didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning when he first said he was going to run.
All the "billionaires" have to do, is buy up the media, and they'd have 100% control over what is put out.. They dont need to conduct any such "unprecedental legal assault"..
how dumb can some people be?
"All the "billionaires" have to do, is buy up the media,"
Where have you been all this time?
This helps to explain why there is so much bias in the media...
IF YOU HAD A HUNCH THE NEWS SYSTEM WAS SOMEWHAT RIGGED AND YOU COULDN'T PUT YOUR FINGER ON IT, THIS MIGHT HELP YOU SOLVE THE PUZZLE.
ABC News executive producer Ian Cameron is married to Susan Rice, National Security Adviser.
CBS President David Rhodes is the brother of Ben Rhodes, Obama's Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications.
ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman is married to former Whitehouse Press Secretary Jay Carney
ABC News and Univision reporter Matthew Jaffe is married to Katie Hogan, Obama's Deputy Press Secretary
ABC President Ben Sherwood is the brother of Obama's Special Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood
CNN President Virginia Moseley is married to former Hillary Clinton's Deputy Secretary Tom Nides.
Ya think there might be a little bias in the news? Ya Think?

I'd like to imagine that you're right, that American citizens wouldn't stand for the disappearance of a free press. But it seems to me that these days Americans are most interested in a literally "FREE" press, one that they pay nothing for. If they're not willing to fork over money to, for instance, pay for the New York Times which, whether or not you think they're left-leaning, really does the hard investigative work and tough analysis that most outlets don't - if people don't support sources like that, that's when solid journalism dies off.
"the New York Times which, whether or not you think they're left-leaning, really does the hard investigative work and tough analysis that most outlets don't - if people don't support sources like that, that's when solid journalism dies off"
Sorry, your beloved NYTimes is NOT the same one You remember from your childhood.
It has turned into nothing more than arag like Huff Post.
"if people don't support sources like that, that's when solid journalism dies off"
It died off years ago.
By the way, are you aware that the NY Times has to rent out 8 complete floors of its building because they can't afford them and need to rent them out?
You seem to miss the whole point. No one is going to shut down any TV networks or newspapers. They are free to print or say whatever they want.
However, when what they print or say is biased, the people have a right to call them out on it. Also, no one is being forced to read or listen to what is being said by the so-called mainstream media. During Obama's presidency, the media handled him with kid gloves. The same thing happened with Hillary. Again, no one is going to stop anyone from airing bias and slanted items.
If the mainstream media insists on being biased and left leaning, they are going to lose viewers/readers because what they write/say comes off as propaganda. It's been a long time since they have been unbiased and strictly reported the news---no matter if it was bad for the democrats or the republicans.
As for Trump "falsely looking younger". Hillary did the same thing. You are naive if you think otherwise. We all know that those who appear on film wear makeup in some form. So, what is your objection to that?
Show me where Trump said he "plans to replace the free press". I'll wait. Because we do have freedom of speech, anyone is free to start up their own network.
"Show me where Trump said he "plans to replace the free press""
He doesn't have to. They are folding on heir own as the NYTImes is renting out 8 of its floors because they need the money.
FDR brought the radio into a news prominence with his Fireside chats.
JFK made TV the "next" generation news source
Trump is doing the same with Tweets.
Millennials get their news from the internet via smart phones more then any other source.
Where did I say otherwise? Where did I not admit that there are sources that are biased to the right?
The mainstream media is biased to the left.
Are you living in a hole? What should Trump do when false stories are printed about him? You have to admit that during the campaign, the mainstream media handled Hillary with kid gloves while Trump was treated in the opposite fashion.
It's about time someone called out the mainstream media. "Baby Trump" ----awwww, aren't you cute/sarcasm.
Do I love everything that comes out of his mouth? Answer: no. However, I do applaud him for standing up to the mainstream media.
It's a shame that the mainstream media became so biased. I remember when they just reported the news and didn't pick and choose what to cover if it didn't suit the narrative that they were trying to push.
BTW, I'm not a "right-winger". I'm a centrist who leans to the right. I don't vote the straight "R" or "D" line. Nor am I a member of the RNC. The last time, after the '12 election, the RNC called us and wanted us to join. Not only did I not join but I gave them an earful. Neither party is looking out for Americans. Stereotype much, do you?
" remember when they just reported the news and didn't pick and choose what to cover if it didn't suit the narrative that they were trying to push."
You must be older then I am and I am OLD.
The press KNEW about JFK"s sex escapades and NEVER reported a word about it.
Back then there were only 3 TV sources for news so we couldn't fact check them like we can now.
They told us what they WANTED to and did NOT report on things they did not want to.
A small group of superrich Americans — the president-elect among them — has laid the groundwork for an unprecedented legal assault on the media. Can they succeed?

I saw that how the press hid JFK's Addison's disease. It wasn't until well after his death did stories come out about his sexcapades. Same with FDR (who was way before my time) and the extent of his polio.
That said, I do remember when papers like WaPo did do some real investigating. Watergate comes to mind. I subscribed to WaPo for years. Over time, I noticed how bad they were getting to the point where their bias got so bad that they really should have been ashamed. I finally gave up the subscription over 10 years ago when they did an editorial that attacked a group of us who were fighting to stop a day labor site for illegals that was paid for by tax money.
All that said, reporting from days past basically consisted of writing news stories and just reporting stories. Reporters would ask the hard questions. They don't do that anymore if a hard question doesn't fit their agenda. For example, when AL and GA got tough on illegals, illegals left those states in droves. A farmer was whining to a CBS reporter about how he lost his illegals. Back in the days, a decent reporter would have asked him why he wasn't using the agricultural guest worker visa. The reporter did not even do that. I'm no journalist but I knew that good reporting would have involved asking that question. CBS supports illegal immigration and open borders. What they were trying to do (but failing as most people saw through it) was to make people feel sorry for both the farmer and the illegals.
I am glad that Trump has (and will continue) to call out the mainstream media!
Yes, our media no longer should be supported, they are the propaganda arm of the Democrats/Liberals and should be countered.
You say "Yes," but you're saying the opposite of what the article says.
Unfortunately, the phrase "the media" is thrown around indiscriminately, covering everything from serious investigative pieces by the New York Times, to Kardashian stories on TMZ. Looking at some of your past posts, I get the feeling that perhaps you don't read enough serious journalism to be able to tell the difference between fact/statistics and fiction/opinion.

It stared with the departure of Graham and really escalated with Ben Bradlee, a JFK loyalist.
"Watergate comes to mind"
Do you think the coverage would have been the same if it was dem President and NOT Nixon?
I don't.
And by the way, I am D.C native and know the Post well.
