Russians approve of Putin because the alternative is being ruled by a bunch of ruthless oligarchs, who after enriching themselves on the nation's budget would escape to Israel or to London. After the anarchy and crime of the 1990es Russians simply do not trust businessmen. In the Russian slang a businessman is pretty much synonimous with "rich, ruthless douchebag". They would not trust a man like Trump to rule them either. Putin, on the other hand, comes from the KGB/defence and is viewed as someone who would hold to the military principle "put your country first". That is what the people expect of a president.

The enemy of my enemy sort of thing. terrorism is the big enemy. Russia is as much against it as we are so if we can make common cause against this while watching our sides, rear, and front ; fine

We may not be on the same page on other issues which is ok too

Bromance? well now isn't that special. yup somethings wrong when two leaders of countries might just try to get along, that can't be good. Liberal logic LOL

People like you, including Trump, have no idea whose leg you hump.

Russia has a government department dedicated to blocking web sites which they deem inconvenient.

Russia has banned LinkedIn - Business Insider
Okay, that is at least something.
