that depends on how aggressive a particular local government chooses to be. there are numerous people how have had their assets seized, and forfeited under civil forfeiture laws, and yet they did nothing wrong.
there are also numerous people that were arrested, had their assets seized, and then had the charges dropped against them, but they still lost their assets because while they were in jail, they lost the chance to go to court and try to get their assets back. some jurisdictions only give you ten days to make your case for your assets.
Yes, it is. Lots of innocent people have been destroyed by cops stealing their assets.
Read about it.
Police abuse of civil asset forfeiture laws has shaken our nation’s conscience. Civil forfeiture allows police to seize — and then keep or sell — any property they allege is involved in a crime. Owners need not ever be arrested or convicted of a crime for their cash, cars, or even real estate to be taken away permanently by the government.
Forfeiture was originally presented as a way to cripple large-scale criminal enterprises by diverting their resources. But today, aided by deeply flawed federal and state laws, many police departments use forfeiture to benefit their bottom lines, making seizures motivated by profit rather than crime-fighting.

This is true. Civil asset forfeiture is one of the most insidious activities of our huge government and lots of innocent lives have been destroyed by overly agressive LE.
Actually, it's highly abused and has had no impact on drug dealing.
Civil asset forfeiture is government out of control. It should be stopped.
OK. I know that in the cases of which I'm aware from first hand observation, that it snapped a couple of landlords around when they saw a rental forfeited and they cleaned up their own acts.
Several watermen here have lost their licenses as well as their boats after repeated poaching convictions.

With civil forfeiture, you are guilty until you can prove your innocence. The instances of abuse are staggering.
Example, a couple and their two children were on the way to buy a car they found on Craigslist. They were pulled over for no reason in a small town. When the cash was found, they were taken into custody. the small-town judge gave them a choice, they could voluntarily give up the money, even though they had proof they had taken it from their bank account, or they could be locked up indefinitely and their children would be put in the foster care system. They signed over the money and then were released.
They did eventually get the money back, but attorney fees took a bunch of it.
should jeff sessions be the next attorney general?
That is for Trump and Senate to decide, but it seems he WILL be the next AG. Not everyone will be happy since he and Trump keep saying how all laws need to me enforced, and he is a vocal opponent of legal pot. He will probably shut it down in CO etc. They will also force local city governments to enforce Federal immigration laws.
Will they go after people's assets? Maybe. We will see.
Civil forfeiture is the most in American aspect of the justice system, maybe even the most unamerican government policy in general.
