I listened to that Hawaii meeting between Obama and the Japanese leader on PRI the other day, and both of them simply said we should learn from history. Obama in no way apologized or said it was a mistake.
The Japanese pulled a very sneaky, dirty act when they attacked Pearl Harbor and killed so many service people. The bombs were devastating, but they did end the war right then and there.

There's no such thing in war as a dirty attack and in all likelihood the Russian declaration of war and annihilation of the Japanese on mainland Asia were probably about as important. Keep in mind they didn't surrender after we fried Tokyo...or after the first bomb....and even took many days after the second bomb not knowing if a 3rd was on it's way. They were still hoping to bargain and the Russians took their last chip.
