The Washington Post also retracted any responsibility for spreading a FAKE NEWS story about Russia spreading Fake News. Irony? The WaPo runs fake news to attack fake news.
After printing it as fact the WaPo later reported that they got the info from an online source and NONE of the "facts" could be confirmed.
The WaPo is willing to deal in FAKE NEWS in order to bash Trump or diminish him.
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Russian hackers had penetrated the U.S. electrical grid. Authorities say that there is no indication of that so far. The computer at Burlington Electric was not attached to the gird.
The Washington Post once again forced to retract their fake news.
First the fake news story about paid Russian trolls, now the fake news story about the Russians hacking the electrical grid.
Washington Post retracts story about Russian hack at Vermont utility
The Washington Post has retracted its story about Russian hackers penetrating the nation’s electricity grid with a virus found in a Burlington, Vt., electric company laptop.
News of the supposed hack had set off a firestorm of recriminations, with Vermont leaders calling Russian President Vladimir Putin “a thug†earlier Saturday, after one of the state’s electric utilities found a virus on a laptop computer.
A utility spokesman has also told the Burlington Free Press the laptop was not hooked into the grid.
WaPo didn't 'retract the story.' It corrected the worst lie, because everyone knew the electric grid itself wasn't affected. WaPo didn't change anything else in its anonymously sourced diatribe blaming this on Russsian hackers. To say it 'retracted the story' gives WaPo more credit than it deserves.
It most certainly does. What it influenced is an increasing public distrust of the media which does great harm. People aren't even going to believe true stories any longer.
The media, the IRS, the justice system, etc has all been badly damaged the last eight years.
What I meant was not one of the 'believers' of the story had the integrity to say 'yes, I jumped the gun'.

The Washington Post used fake news (Russia was spreading fake Hillary news) to attack fake news and to diminish Trump (ie Russia was spreading fake news to help him).
I guessing there is also porno (possibly from a Russian cite) on the laptop that was accessed at about the same time the malware showed-up.
Guessing is cool as long as you admit you are just guessing. Malware was found, and luckily it had not yet infected anything important. Its like discovering and defusing an un-exploded bomb. The question is how many Russians cyber-bombs are there out there that have not been discovered yet?
The Post did not retract the story. They clarified that the virus was found on a unlinked computer rather than one that could access the grid. Their story implied the latter.
Who knows? Maybe that is a lie even. The powers behind the power do not want you to know that they are so inept that the Russkies could shut us down anytime they feel like it.
Here is reality,
Someone at the utility company liked to watch porn or trade funny videos with friends on the laptop and picked up a virus.
I had my eyebrows raised from the beginning because they didn't say what the virus actually did and there are tens of thousands of them out there, mostly aimed at some sort of financial gain via scam or data theft.
The reporting was so thin, "Russian virus on laptop at power company" was pretty much the only facts presented.
It's embarassing to watch and frankly dangerous because it numbs us to not believing the news even when they might have a valid story.
We're not talking some idiot spouting opinion on Fox or MSNBC but stuff being presented at NEWS.
That's what makes stories like this so distasteful.
