(Rust Belt native living in greater L.A.)

Sometimes when I'm at the beach in Malibu I think to myself "Man, I sure miss living in Cleveland"...

Anyone buying it?

That sounds like such a awful place to live, you couldn't pay me twice that to take a job in North Dakota.

Cass, ND( Fargo) $56,778

I wasn't arguing anything in that post.

Merely stating that CNN says $56K in Fargo is similar to $100K in SF.

In fact I argued in my only other post in this thread that I don't like regional smack talk. Too each their own. Fargo is right for some people and not right for others. Same for San Francisco.

My wife had an opportunity to take a high paying job in Naples, Florida. We actually decided to stay in Michigan. I am happy with our decision believe it or not - although many would have jumped.

Florida is horrible.

I'd rather live in Michigan (despite being a Buckeye ).

http://www.socketsite.com/archives/2...ince-2011.html

Gross Pay $115,000 in San Francisco after tax $72,000 net
Gross Pay $56,000 in Fargo after tax $42,000 net

18 years of net annual pay in San Francisco to purchase a home
4 years of net annual pay in Fargo to purchase a home.

I guess a Fargo median wage earning household would have to pay 4 years of net-wages to afford a home as opposed to 18 years in San Francisco.
Right but then you'd have to actually LIVE in North Dakota.

#nothanks

I actually love having 4 seasons and spend time outside year round.

When we were considering moving to Naples it was 91 degrees for the high in the middle of the winter.....I wouldn't want to live like that.

I've been in california multiple time and also ND, SD, MT, ID, IA, Etc. IMO the middle of the country has more to offer to a person that wants to live in the country or small town and can make a decent salary too. Most of the small towns in CA are depressed from what I sae. That said call center work aaaaghhh no. Maybe if it started at $20 an hour.

I have lived on both coasts and in the center of the country, and I've found something to love in each place. There is no one right place for everyone to live, and thank goodness for that. Bloom where you're planted.

That's the answer. Supply vs Demand.

A lot of people prefer to live on the coast, (not just elitist liberals), because there's typically a lot to do in those areas, let alone the fact that those communities are near a nice ocean. I'm Conservative and have no desire to live in landlocked North Dakota.

Further, if I'm going to spend $200,000 for a place to live, it's not going to be that close to another person. A condo is a glorified apartment - and who knows what kind of neighbor you're going to get. Nope. If I spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a place, it's going to have land, and not have my neighbor be able to look out their kitchen window in to mine. I've dealt with neighbors like that - I would never buy a place that would put me in that situation for long term.

Also, a call center job is one of the most soul sucking jobs that life can offer. No thanks.
