But I don't see Israel as valuable to us anymore...if they ever really were. They're an albatross now. American foreign policy needs to move past the Israel-Palestinian conflict and onto more important matters in that region.
The US got close to the Treaty coming to an end when Egypt demanded higher payments for natural gas and started blowing up the pipelines. But the US stepped in and told Israel to treat it as business deal that went bad instead of what it truly was. Israel was ready to fly in and deal with the problem, but a certain POTUS had to protect Muslim interests (and payments).

In 1979 there was an agreement between Israel, USA, Egypt.
Israel gives Sinai peninsula to Egypt, Egypt is going under US influence, US gives weapon coupons to Israel and Egypt.
You want to end this agreement? Great! Return the car to the leasing company (Return Sinai to Israel) and stop the payments.
What a bad analogy. How about Israel stop getting free cars instead of higher wages. Then we can discuss leasing.

If one wanted to make Peace, then the Sinai should have simply been given to the Palestinians and they would've had a country. It's a large tract of land that Egypt uses only 2% of.
