Agree, now if Russia and the United States would stop interfering in the affairs of other Nations and playing bully we might be able to find more common ground as Nations. I will wait to see where this all leads but I, and Many other Americans, are not real comfortable with the chummy relationship putin and trump seem to have while at the same time talking nukes and more nukes. We shall see if Serious talks between Russia and the US take place in the near future, but I can assure you this, the Republican Congress are not just going to go along with everything trump suggests, they far better than he who the Russian Leaders are.

You think that has any merit to it considering Saudi? They don't like those stupid gay pride parades where disgusting middle aged men dress up like show girls? Meanwhile Saudi will have gays executed. So no, its pretense.

The reason Russia is an enemy is because they can challenge US hegemony to some degree.

This is all quite silly since the easy way to pacify Russia is through its people who actually like the West. However when the US staged a coup and supported a regime that started killing Russians , it just plays into a strongman's hands. Under these conditions, I would back Putin as well were I Russian.

I was being sarcastic.

I am in full support of engaging other countries but putting democracy and human rights issues aside. Open communication and trade is better than sanctions and isolation like you said.

right. and frankly, most nations others than liberal european nations are still about 10-15 years behind on social reform.

What I wonder though is how the left supports normalized relations with Muslim leaders - specifically Iran - but think the right are traitorous for their general support of Putin?

According to their actions.

Seizing the Crimea was not a friendly act.

Backing Assad in Syria was not a friendly act.

Trying to influence our election process was not a friendly act.

Putin never forgets, NEVER, that the United States and Russia are competitors globally. We compete for resources, we compete for influence, we compete for economic dominance. Trump may admire Putin, but he shouldn't forget that Putin's strategy to win in the competition against the United States is long-term.

They weren't trying to hack the power grid. Some employee probably was watching something he shouldn't have on the laptop aka porn...etc....that wasn't even connected to the grid.

The propaganda new agency was forced to retract the story. IT was FAKE

The Russian people themselves are wonderful people (well, they can't drive a car for ****, but that is another story ). It is their dictators/leaders who are the problem.

If anyone thinks Putin would not love to rename Washington DC " Moscow II", they are not facing reality. When Nikita said "We will bury you !" he was not offering an olive branch. The Russian leadership are not our friends and never will be. That little lull after the cold war was only them reloading.

Well I am glad they are . Russia is needed to keep balance in the world. Balance against US policy. Otherwise, the world would be destroyed by us by now.

We need to take a page from China's play book. Its business not personal. Mind our own business and do business.
Ask the world, read news from other countries. The biggest issue the world has with the USA is that we impose our beliefs on everyone else and we want to fight anyone who disagrees with us. That is the world's perception and they aren't wrong.
Why can't we be friends with Russia? Who says that we need to be friends? We need to find a common ground and just keep it at that. With the USA we have this nasty habit of our way or the highway approach to diplomacy.
Thailand has been a US ally since the end of WWII. Not so much anymore. US interference and involvement in their country has changed the attitude. More and more they turn to China. We don't need to agree with how a country conducts their own affairs to do business with them.
Russia and the USA after the cold war started to form a descent relationship. Obama even stated that after re-elected he would be more flexible with Russia. He did the opposite.
How was Libya our business? Syria? Let those in that region that truly understand the culture deal with those problems.
I detest Putin. He is a former KGB spymaster and a snake. He is Russia's problem. Why make him ours?
