Instead of focusing on the suspect, I wish more was said on what to do in these active shooter situations.
The attack took place in baggage claim. Most people probably had 30-50 lb bags of luggage that could have been thrown at the shooter to try and stop him.
I'm not saying this to blame the victims, but that better information needs to be given to the public.
You have got to be kidding.
Most people run when the shooting starts, not attack the shooter with an American Tourister bag.
Until those words come from BSO, I'm not going to say it for fact. They won't even release the flight information because of the people who were killed, so how can any reporter know that?
They can't.
I'm guessing that people on his same flight have told this to reporters.
Anyone can pull a gun out of a checked bag in the baggage area restroom--anywhere. What good would security do? We live in a society where some are in love with their guns. We will have mass shootings forever and some gun lovers will continue to claim we need to ban muslims for our 'safety.' What a joke.
If they are going to let people fly with guns, they should have to buy ammunition at their destination. They don't need to bring it with them.
This is one sicko country. Just hope that you are not in the line of fire. That's about all you can do.

One good thing to keep in mind, if you have a choice, don't run in the same direction the panicked crowd is running.

Understanding the motive is key here-not the gun or ammo.
The baggage claim is an unsecured area, so it would have been much easier for him just to show up with an outside weapon in his car and shoot people than to check a weapon into his bag, fly in, and then open/load.

These shootings happen quite quickly. I don't know that most of us would have the reflexes to do anything but drop, maybe run, in the best of circumstances. In such a stressful scenario, who knows what any of us would be able to do.
Until people saw bodies on the ground, many thought it was firecrackers. Airport baggage claims are loud, echoey, and crowded - even identifying where the shooting is coming from would be difficult, much less reacting by throwing anything.

Though I'll keep this in mind next time.
Maybe I should ask Santa for some hard-sided luggage.
