lol yeah, these stories are just desperate anecdotes used for propaganda purposes in America by the well funded right wing think tanks and their shills. The sad thing is that too many well meaning people with limited means buy into this nonsense.

Correct. I'd be surprised if an American can answer my question.

If the American system is so much better for Canadians, then why aren't Canadians demanding to replicate it in their own country? Why would Canadians want to incur big travel costs each time they receive treatment?

There isn't. I noted earlier that only 0.15% of Canadians seek non-emergency medical treatment in the US. I would bet good money it's because most of them were already there on business or vacation when they got ill/injured.

If it does happen it will happen like it did in Canada. One place tried it and it worked, then all others soon followed. Once it happens, no government will ever be able to undo it, only try to improve on it. No administration would ever succeed in dismantling a single payer system, it would decimate their political capital and destroy their party for years.

Be careful what you ask for!

Americans don't have national health care. It makes sense that some will seek medical treatment elsewhere. Canada DOES have national health care, so why isn't Canada's national health care system meeting Canadians' health care needs? Why are increasing numbers of Canadians having to come to the US for medical care?

Yes, and THIS is why...

48% of all US births are paid by Medicaid, the welfare health care program for the poor. And 70% of those born into poverty will never rise above it, even as adults.

Anyone fail to recognize where that trainwreck is headed?

Sources:

Medicaid reports (as of June 29, 2015) that 48% of all US births each year are paid for by Medicaid, the welfare health care program for the poor.

70% of that 48% NEVER rise above poverty level.

Most Canadians seeking health care in the US were already here on vacation or business

What does that have to do with increasing numbers of Canadians seeking medical care in the US because Canada's national health care isn't meeting their health care needs? Nothing.

It is partially privatized. National health care in Canada doesn't cover prescriptions. etc. And buying private supplemental health insurance can get one more and better coverage.

You're deluded.

The Commonwealth Fund (liberal pro-national health care think tank, former president of 16 years Karen Davis was a member of Carter's HHS) released a report in 2014 ranking Canada 10th out of 11 wealthy nations in terms of health care.
