Not a single single payer country bans supplemental insurance (very cheap, more for convenience than anything, like $50 dental insurance) for those who want it. The scare mongering has taken on epic proportions when people believe private options are banned everywhere.

Regarding the elderly preferring their old insurance over Medicare. You think private insurance will take on 75 year olds with a history of cancer? Dont be silly.
If single payer is such a panacea why did your progressives in congress and Obama decide against implementing it when they had the chance?

My point was people like private insurance through their employer over medicare. Your idea would take that away from millions of Americans.

What question would be neutral? Just asking if people like the concept of everyone having insurance without detailing the sacrifices that will come up is bogus. Look at all the promises Obama made before Obamacare became law that turned out to be lies.

The questions are straightforward and the kinds of things we are now dealing with Obamacare and the things Obama bragged about his plan not changing.

Would you support single payer if:

Some people needed to switch doctors?
Your own taxes would increase?
People need to give up other coverage like employer coverage?
Longer wait times for non-emergency medical services?
It took longer for new drugs and treatments to become available?

Oh, just stop with the stupid stuff.

For decades Americans were travelling north to get free healthcare in Canada until photo cards were instituted to stop the practice.

American cottage owners right next door to our summer property were able to obtain years worth of free healthcare by showing their old style OHIP card they obtained through showing property ownership, utilities paid and tax receipts. They routinely scheduled their medical care for their summer visits to Canada.

Geez louise 600,000 claims by Americans in just one province of Canada..no wonder you thought your fubarred system was functional! The ones needing healthcare for years, got it in Canada.

It would still be going on today if Canada had not instituted policies and systems to stop it.

There's also this one:

Those Canadians using American medical services are doing so for expediency and primarily for ELECTIVE services. You want your tummy tuck done tomorrow and can afford to pay, get yer butt to the U.S. or another country.

How do you explain this one?

1.4 Million Americans Will Go Abroad for Medical Care This Year. Should You? | The Fiscal Times

Gee, all those folks leaving the country with what you think is the best to go to places like Thailand and Costa Rica to get better care for less outlay. I'd be ashamed of my country if I were you.

Why do you keep talking about Obama? I didnt even vote for Obama. Plenty of right wing Democrats are owned by big pharma and big insurance. Does this surprise you? Progressives in Congress support it of course. Any person who is not on the payroll of the lobbyist industry understands how beneficial it is for the 99%.

How much do you earn? You have to earn hundreds of thousands to really benefit from a for-profit privatized health care system. Thats why other democracies simply refuse to accept such a system. The reason is simple. A for-profit system not funded through taxes will always be extremely expensive or unavailable for the most of the people without a lot of mandates and regulations, which further increases the administration costs.

You keep talking about all sorts of horrors you think Medicare/single payer causes. Thats not how a proper poll is conducted.

Just ask straightforward neutral questions. Like this one from Gallup:

I guess the British should be ashamed too because 200,000 a year are doing the same thing:

Its extremely easy for the British to travel to another single payer system country to get stuff done if they want. You can be in another country in an hour or two by car. Thats just like a commute. Germany for example has shorter wait times for elective surgery and specialist appointments than America.

You clearly are a Trump supporter who hates Medicare/single payer, but MOST Trump supporters disagree with you according to polls. And Trump knows this. He can choose to please people like you and risk getting extremely unpopular or he can choose to go with popular opinion that loves Medicare and single payer.

I did not raise the point of people travelling out of country to get it faster as a measurement of quality; another of you programmed lemmings did that.

Whanna keep going with this? We can continue to raise the ante beyond your ability to challenge as there is just too much ammo out there from years of your healthcare systemic failures in everything from quality to delivery through to denials.

Yeah; let's do that......

Well, there is another side to this, but I won't get into that.

I will just say that the average doctors's salary in Canada is not that much lower than in the US. In Australia, which is more of a hybrid system, doctors salaries are even higher than in the US. Health care providers earn more in The Netherlands as well. And in all cases they tend to work less hours. This is a testament to the amount of non-care related bureaucracy and waste we have in our system.

Point is a almost equal amount of Brits find the need to leave the country for medical procedures as we do. Mexico is an hour from me and I know lots of people who go there for their medical needs and for things like Dentists and eye wear that your medicare does not cover.

You don't run the presidency based on polls. If that is the only criteria Trump should ban late term abortions and sign TPP to name a few things. Mob rule is not a good way to go. I already showed you polls that prove most Americans not just Trump supporters do not want single payer when the understand what that would mean.

I never said I hated medicare but your claim that its the greatest thing since sliced bread is wrong. I believe intelligently created medical system based on the free market can work. We don't need to copy other countries. This is America.

Maybe. There clearly is insurance profit and administrative overhead in the current system that might be reduced. In any case, any health plan I would like to see should use real costs today with clear-eyed projections into the future. We don't need any of the fuzzy cost saving claims like we saw with the ACA.
