Laura Bush was a nice woman but didn't accomplish much as First Lady.

She's a racist piece of filth.
She's not a racist at all, unlike many of you on this thread who cannot see past the color of her skin to appreciate what a lovely, caring person she is. And how great she was as First Lady. Shame on you.

She has been a picture of class regardless of the constant criticism, she will welcome her retirement as first lady.

Obvious racism?

What makes criticism of her "obvious racism" other than whites not being allowed to criticize the black first lady?

O
It's like a longgggg movie you think is going to end and then it continues and continues...
At least they are not leaving in disgrace, like Nixon. Obama's approval rating is 56 and Michelle's is even higher. So methinks YOU are the one in the MINORITY.

What the heck does Michelle Obama deserve to give a farewell speech? Who the hell is she? She is not an elected official, nor did she do anything (well, except talking, which every person can). She probably should return those dresses that were made with taxpayers' money.

It's your privilege to have free speech, but to criticize her in the nasty, personal way so many yahoo's on here do, just because she's black, is racist. The hate isn't really her as a person, it's that she has power and influence and racists can't stand that. They think she's "uppity" but in actuality, she's a whole lot smarter and accomplished than most of you will ever be.

Nonsense. The First Lady's formal clothing for official events is either paid for out of pocket OR donated by designers and subsequently turned over to the National Archives. The First Family pays for their own everyday clothing and therefore it belongs to them, just as yours does.

This one is for those of us who think she was a wonderful First Lady and a genuinely great human being.

Gonna miss you both, Michele !

Liberal men are often a lot like women in some regards.

The government does not pay for the First Lady's clothes. The first family also pays for their own personal food.

Jackie Kennedy loved expensive, designer clothes and spent a lot of money on them. Apparently, that cost to their budget was a bone of contention between her and Jack Kennedy.

Michelle gave a farewell speech because she has many fans who would want to hear from her. You don't have to listen to Michelle anymore than I have to listen to Melania's halting, broken English speeches.
