Us "Irish" also had to put up with a bunch of prejudice, so did many other people of NON British heritage even just 100 years ago here in the US. BTW: most of us are also "white".
A few million African Americans are walking around with Irish last names.
Now how do you suppose that happened?

You have a great military. Too bad you also have horrendously horrible foreign policies and have had since 1945.
We have a great military? Ha...everyone loves to say that, and it's such a nice platitude that everyone wants to believe it.
We've had a ton of military failures over the last 50 years. Americans had better rethink that "great military" stuff again. Either that, or get the hell outta the world police business.
It is. Lives depend on organized and focused structure.
If you want individualism, then don't join. If you can't handle structure, organization, conformity for a purpose, following orders... then you have no place in the military.
We have the best Military on the planet used in the worst possible way. It is not their job to protect other country's, or even our own, investors outside of the mainland US. We do not need to kill thousands of US troops to recover some oil investors money. They knew the risk and presumably the profit. If the risk is too high or the profit too low do not take the risk but never expect it to be protected by our Troops.
The Army has issued a new regulation: Effective immediately, brigade-level commanders will be able to grant accommodations to servicemen and women who wear beards, turbans, or hijabs for religious reasons—the three most common requests for waivers to current guidelines on grooming and dress, according to a letter from the Secretary of the Army, Eric Fanning. The new guidelines also revise hairstyle standards for female soldiers: They can now wear dreadlocks in addition to cornrows and twists, which were allowed in a revision made in 2014.* Like other hairstyles, locks must be relatively small, uniform, neat, and tied off inconspicuously, and women don’t have to request an accommodation to wear them.
I have not read all the posts, but we've had sons in the Army since 1988, and the ebb and flow of loosely goosey policies are due to whatever political philosophy is current.
My sons just shrugged and did what they were told. I suspect we will be entering a spell in which the generals lead the Armies, and the President will leave them alone without the pic social engineering.
