I doubt Trump can, it's near impossible for a public official or candidate for office to make a successful defamation claim. But I bet Michael Cohen is discussing his options with his fellow lawyers right about now.

????

Get things straight? Do you know how not to interpret things?

"CNN's decision to publish carefully sourced reporting about the operations of our government is vastly different than Buzzfeed's decision to publish unsubstantiated memos."

I never said that CNN denied the report, but CNN is distancing itself from the way Buzzfeed reported this, by releasing the report without verifying it first...

Buzzfeed dragged CNN into this when they released the report, but CNN is saying "yes we had it but we didn't just throw it out there UNTIL it was verified by a reliable source"

There's a major difference in the two...

That doesnt sound like a bring it on and more of statement of panic ike the cnn reporter screaming at the trump news conference, and now trying to distance itself from buzzfeed when they were gushing over the initial report

CNN was breathlessly alluding to BuzzFeed's article knowing people would go there to read the full content and screaming about the "cnn exclusive" report of trump and the russians and now its

During CNN’s coverage of President-Elect Donald Trump’s press conference on Wednesday, anchor Jake Tapper stated that it was “irresponsible” of Buzzfeed “to put uncorroborated information on the Internet"

CNN's decision to publish carefully sourced reporting about the operations of our government is vastly different than Buzzfeed's decision to publish unsubstantiated memos."

CNN wrote and broadcast the story as if it were a true and thoroughly vetted story and they still haven't retracted the initial report.

Cnn is great journalism if you think tmz is serious journalism, most of cnns reporting for the few months leading up to election were daily reports on trump supposed scandals

Whoever fed you that narrative? - they lied to you.

All the media has to do is not put out fake news that defames someone, and they won't get sued.

The media has great protection from being sued, so when they do get sued, they crossed way over the line., and have nobody to blame but themselves.
Read that too.

4Chan is an online forum where anyone can post anything. Posters are prone to speculative conspiracies and hoaxes. Much of the content trends extreme.

Buzzfeed is one of thousands of social media aggragaters that sources trending social media topics and relies on sensational headlines to get the click. It does the CYA thing by saying it's unverified information.

Reddit is another aggregater of social media trends with an online messaging/polling by users.

Then there's the likes of Info Wars that specializes in conservative conspiracy theories and monetizing people's fears.

There are thousands of these websites and it does not include those designed to appear to look like specific MSM web sources.

As it relates to the " Golden Showers" story, reportedly a 4Chan user claims to be the originator of the hoax. There is no reasonable way to verify this claim of ownership. Other sites claim the " Golden Showers" story has been out there since summer. And yet others claim big bad government and MSM are attempting to control free speech.

An equally curious story was what is what is now referred to as Pizza Gate. That too has been attributed to 4Chan with some Twitter added for fun. The general public took the bait to the next step. Some lifted pictures of employee's children off their FB pages and claimed they were victims of sex slavery. Others posted stock photos of anonymous children. Protesters showed at the restaurant. Th owner and employees received death threats.

People tend to believe anything when it seems to validate their perceptions. A NC man drove to DC to investigate Comet Pizza and intended to use his loaded weapons to save innocent children. Some alternate media claims the shooting that occurred was faked- staged with the intent of government shutting down alternative news.

This forum, like all political forums, has its share of posters who are into alternative news and distrust MSM. They serve a purpose by keeping all informed of what's going on in the alternative universe and by doing so , create incremental click bait income for the source/consolidators.

What damages did he have? His believers believed him, not the story.

If libel and/or slander was a problem, who would run for office. They would spend all their time and money defending themselves in court.

Hillary could be suing all the posters on CD who said she was a lesbian and that Chelsea was not bill's daughter.
Just off the top in no particular order:

Holocaust was faked

Secret societies control the world

JFK Assassination theories, including Ted Cruz's father being a part of it

Moon Landing was faked

Clintons killed Vince Foster

The 9/11 Truthers

Area 51 and aliens

FEMA Camps

Connection between Autism and Vaccinations

Scalia was murdered

The protracted birther thing ( Who was it that offered $1 million to anyone who could prove Obama was not born in the US?)

Obama is a secret Muslim

Obama is gay. Michelle is a man. The kids are actors.

Obama did not attend Columbia.

The tunnels under Walmarts.

Sandy Hook was faked

There was no lack of media outfits breathlessly reporting on the birth certificate hoax - a criminal allegation directed at the President - and you know that everybody in this thread would have had a screaming fit if there had been any hint of President Obama "destroying" any of those.

There's a magnificent double standard being paraded right now.
Indeed.

Obama was the first to serve in the evolving ( maturing?) social media age where many people demonstrate a tendency to believe just about anything that validated their perceptions.

Trump will be a beneficiary of the same.
