The circus is a tired old concept. Kids don't like to see caged animals anymore than their parents. Who eats the food there anyway? No thanks. Time for a change...

I saw it in 2006, my only circus experience but it felt dated then. It wasn't about the tigers but merely it was bleh. The clowns were barely used and they were unremarkable. Aerialists are upstaged by the various Cirque du Soleil shows whether residency shows in Las Vegas, Walt Disney World or now New York or the touring show. The dome of death was what I enjoyed the most but you can find that in many motorsports events. The problem is the circus is dead. Too many places have circus acts these days and do it better, cooler and more contemporary than Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey.

Just so everyone knows, the Feld organization is going to be hurting with the circus shutting down. They still got Disney on Ice, Supercross, Arenacross and Monster Jam. I attend one of the four pretty regularly. Many people attend Feld events each year.

Ringling Bros. circus to close after 146 years | Daily Mail Online

How about telling the whole story instead of cherry picking according to your own personal agenda? You are a good example of biased news reporting.

APNewsBreak: Ringling Bros. circus to close after 146 years

Quote:
Declining attendance combined with high operating costs, along with changing public tastes and prolonged battles with animal rights groups all contributed to its demise.
"There isn't any one thing," said Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment.
Quote:
But as the 20th century went on, kids became less and less enthralled. Movies, television, video games and the internet captured young minds. The circus didn't have savvy product merchandising tie-ins or Saturday morning cartoons to shore up its image.
Quote:
"The competitor in many ways is time," said Feld, adding that transporting the show by rail and other circus quirks — such as providing a traveling school for performers' children— are throwbacks to another era. "It's a different model that we can't see how it works in today's world to justify and maintain an affordable ticket price. So you've got all these things working against it."

Good riddance. No decent human being wants to support animal abuse, and Ringling Bros. has a very long history of such abuse.
Animals taken from their homes in the wild, tortured in order to "entertain" a bunch of human idiots who don't want to know the truth. This has nothing to do with PETA. Many, many animal organizations, including the leading humane societies in the U.S., have been trying to get Americans to understand how exceedingly cruel circuses are to animals for a long time. Some people are so devoid of a moral center, however, and so unconcerned with teaching their children to treat animals with kindness, that they simply don't care. If someone did to their dog or cat what is done to circus animals, most of these people would be singing a different tune. But if animal cruelty doesn't directly affect them, they're fine with it, or they just simply bury their head in the sand and sing a tune of denial--both of which are forms of cowardice and moral corruption.

Back in the day, there was a version, it was a cow, a lamb, and a pig. I'd much rather attend that!

This is not sad news at all. What is really sad is that animal extinctions are happening in record numbers due to human greed and apathy. It's more important that kids understand how animals need to be in their natural habitats and how habitats need to be protected so that these creatures can thrive and grow their populations whenever possible.

Cirque du Soleil manages to have absolutely amazing shows without the abuse of animals.
