I'm in complete agreement with your comprehensive and correct summation. Quoted for posterity.

A good read - emphasis on the highlighted

Modern Sporting Rifle Facts | NSSF

If someone calls an AR-15-style rifle an "assault weapon," he or she either supports banning these firearms or does not understand their function and sporting use, or both. Please correct them. "Assault weapon" is a political term created by California anti-gun legislators to ban some semi-automatic rifles there in the 1980s.

AR-15-style rifles look like military rifles, such as the M-16, but function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger.

The new anti-gun term, military style.

No matter what they are called or how they are described there are so many AR-15 type rifles out in the public now they will never by any law be eradicated. It would be easier to outlaw car hubcaps.

Adaptive combat rifle, based on the SCAR.

Edit: I should say based off of or inspired by the scar.

Precisely .

So Bushmaster and others deliberately market this to customers ( who fall for it willingly) as a "combat rifle" , but to call it a military style or assault rifle is a leftie liberal concept created to denigrate the " modern sporting rifle" and make it sound more dangerous and scary than it is.

*chuckle*

So what else do we not agree?
Two more:

6. There are no high capacity magazines. There are only standard capacity magazines designed for the gun, and there are reduced capacity or neutered magazines mandated by the Criminal Protection and Law Abiding Citizen Neutering Act from the liberal states such as NY, CA and CO.

7. "I wish I had less bullets in my gun," said no one since the invention of the gun.

Context DOES matter .
Just so I understand, you are okay with people owning Ar15s and 30'round magazines, or clips as you like to call them, you just don't think that they should be used for hunting because the standard mags are 30 rounds? More than the six you think are the max needed to hunt hogs in your opinion?

The most popular terms USED BY THE LEFT TO CREATE FEAR OF AN OBJECT THEY WANT TO ELIMINATE and to describe the weapons at the center of the recent gun control debates are “military-style” and “assault.”
