so again the PEOTUS is a hypocrite. The H1B visa program is a total scam that actually does take away good paying middle class and upper middle class jobs form Americans, bringing little back to our economy. But instead he focuses on the Mexicans coming here to take lawn jobs.....I've witnessed firsthand and the crappy H1B workers lacking skills necessary for the job do poor jobs while living 4 to an apartment all chipping in to lease a civic, all the while sending all their cash offshore. You want to get tough on the Mexican laborers, then you better get tough on H1b too, but I've heard nothing of that. Instead of fighting for 25K jobs, how about the 100K ones being decimated....?

H1B visas for hospitality workers ARE NOT needed because that's basically unskilled labor and we have plenty of that.
H1b is for highly educated/ skilled foreign worker.
h2b is for seasonal workers who must be paid the higher of the prevailing local wage or $10/ HR and be paid OT. The laws were relaxed in 2006/7 to require the employer to oly have to demonstrate they posted a legal notice of hire in a local paper.
Trump Org does indeed seem to demonstrate a preference for hiring Eastern Europeans for seasonal hospitality jobs.
The problem I have with all these guest worker programs is that companies get accustomed to having experienced workers served to them on a silver platter. That means there are never any entry-level jobs available ("entry-level = 5 years of exp" nowadays) because why hire and train American kids when you can get a guy from India or Russia with 10 years of experience already?
Problem is, the big businesses already swear up and down that they're completely unable to fill their positions without H1Bs, and it's essentially impossible to prove them wrong.
The question nobody wants to ask is: "Could you fill that position if you upped the pay 20%?", because of course you could. But H1Bs act to force the market towards lower compensation, and lower compensation in turn makes it harder to find US employees, it's a nice little self-reinforcing effect.
In effect, H1Bs use the lure of settling in the US as additional compensation - and that's pretty good for the employer, because it's a valuable commodity to the worker and comes at a zero or low cost for the business. Plus, of course, people who stand to be deported if they lose their job are nice and complacent about working conditions.
Now ask yourself - is it the American worker or the American employer who can benefit Trump more?
My personal experience with H1 b visa workers is now 15 years old. At the time we needed very specialized skills to develop applications on the Stratus dual processing platform. We were willing to pay any amount for people with verifiable references and ability to demonstrate their skills. There were no takers even though we were willing to pay an enormous premium head hunting fee.
We end up contracting With an Indian Consulting Group who took care of the visas. They recruited one guy from the UK who was Greek with a complex visa situation and 2 guys from India. The experience exceeded every expectation. They worked like dogs into the wee hours. They taught permanent employees how to and in doing so enabled them to be poached. We are talking about people who made $200,000 a year 15 years ago.
We had subsequent experiences with big name US consulting firms who would fill an assignment with the United Nations of brilliant workers who taught US workers how to develop and maintain applications.
As I understand it, my former employer tired of being poached and gradually and almost completely migrated to offshore development/ maintenance and are pleased with the outcomes since 2006. Obviously they are getting a better bang for their $ than they could in their local market.
I appreciate mileage varies.
