A study that asked 267 participants about their use of language and then asked them to self- disclose their personal level of honesty, is entertainment, not fact.
I suspect if you were to observe a typical prison population, their use of profanity, think one might reach a different conclusion.
Foul-mouthed may people are honest about how the FEEL at any given time BUT that doesn't mean they have a basic understanding of any of the issues they are commenting on and hold strong attitudes about.
Baloney. Honest people seek the truth. It's in their DNA. They're far more aware than ordinary rubes who believe crap they see on TV or read on the social media. I'm notorious amongst my friends for researching every little thing, and when I open my mouth, I can back up what I say. If something is strictly my opinion, I say so. My opinions are based on reality.
I think the relation is there, foul mouthed people tend to be blunt, and blunt people tend to be the ones to tell it how it is
In NYC people will tell you to your face you're an idiot. Go down south and people will smile and politely nod then gossip to everyone behind your back that you're an idiot
I guess there could be some truth to this. My experience is I can say some stuff, but I have a few friends who can make men hide their face. When a lot of cuss words are coming out, not sure this is a sense of being smart or covering up ones own insecurities.
One thing is to know when to be foul mouthed and when to shut up!
Wonderful link! I found it to be most validating, since I have a foul mouth, and use the "nuanced" language and "complex sentences" described in the article. In our old state (Mississippi), people speak in lies, encased in lies, encased in lies. One is expected to behave and speak, as if one had never engaged in sexual activity, or even seen a naked person.
Simply saying "tan line", in Mississippi, can draw gasps, since it is an implicit acknowledgement that clothing might, at some point come off. People don't say "ugly words". Everybody is ooshey-gooshey syrupy-sweet, all the time. Many people are permanently stuck in 'Cute & Funny Mode'. And heaven forbid someone should be honest, or - clutch the pearls! - analytical - EVEN IN BUSINESS SETTINGS. Try planning your marketing strategy, in a meeting with people who feel obligated to censure those who acknowledge even the most basic realities of life.
The REALITY behind all that Missippi Mealymouth cuss-free speech, is precisely what the article describes. Mississippi has been recently named 'The Most Corrupt State', and regularly leads the nation in unwed births, venereal disease, marital infidelity (a HUGE number of prominent Mississippians were exposed, during the Ashley Madison meltdown), porn consumption, SWINGING (Even Madison, our old gold-plated lifeboat of an exurb - dubbed 'The Holy City', because it's waaaay churchified, does not allow naked statues, does not allow bikinis on Laser Center billboards - even out on the Interstate running through town, and regularly arrests people for cussing, has several very active swing groups https://chane.com/products/reunion-s...nt=30509111879, including an early-elderly one centered around the Yacht Club).
So, while they may look and sound like the finest and most chaste Christians who ever lived, the reality is that many of my former neighbors and associates are manic hypersexuals, who will rob-you-blind, the first chance they get: Jackson Jambalaya: Judge has a few things to say about Claiborne Frazier
Then, there were the fine young Men of Faith at Steadivest, who always sounded upbeat, and who never used coarse language: Jackson Jambalaya: Steadivest fraud case The big 'Tell', here in the video, is that he's wearing a blazer without a tie, and you can see a bit of undershirt. Crooks think this makes them come across as "good boys from honest Working-class families", and apparently, the ploy really does help con a lot of people. I love his Mister Haney voice quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXRAb4qc69I
I think CD should allow the use of any language without censorship.............
