Keep it. Leftists don't seem to understand that the purpose of the electoral college isn't to elect the candidate that won the popular vote; it's to keep the majority from oppressing the minority. Urban areas like New York and L.A. hold a much greater population than most areas of the Mid West. If the electoral college were to vote based on the popular vote then all of the decisions would be made by those who live in urban areas, but this ignores everyone who lives in rural parts of the country. Urban areas have different needs than people who live in rural America. If the election was based on nothing more than what the majority said then we would ignore all of problems that the minority has. The electoral college keeps this from happening.
Utterly incorrect posturing. It would take more than 9 states if ever member voted the same to elect a President. Practically with real distributions it would take at least 20.
What on earth value do you people see in a higher weighing of the vote from states of low population? You really think they are smarter in Wyoming or Rhode Island. Or that Rhode Island has some different perspective than Connecticut or Massachusetts?
The only thing that comes from the EC is 30 or so added votes for the right wing. Right around Trump's margin.
And that is why it will not be amended. So the public vote imitative has to be the way to go.
The electoral college system needed to be reformed to 21st century standards.
No it doesn't. It is doing exactly what he founding fathers wanted it to do. It is to keep the more populated areas from taking advantage of other areas in the country. Heaven help us if those weird thinking people in New York and California ever have the power to run the country unchecked. Thankfully every once in a while normal thinking, salt of the earth people get disgusted enough to put a stop to the tyranny.
You do realize that most of the republicans in California do not even bother to vote? I am originally from there and most of the state north of Sacramento and in central CA is red as can be but they don't vote because it doesn't matter. It sure would if you had a popular count and they came out to vote. Might be a bit different than you see today. Bay Area and SoCal have so many people in so few counties.

Actually the primary target of the EC was Virginia. It was feared by many for its population advantage and the number of major leaders from VA. And again the electors were not originally pledged to a candidate. They were selected in their own right as being suitable representativ3es to pick the President.
The present thing does nothing but give the right wing an unfair advantage.
The present system makes the states that exist between NY and CA relevant. And the reason for the EC was each states desire to maintain the relevance and individuality of their state.
We are the United States of America , not the United Nation of America. We are a federation of sovereign states, and the FF wanted it that way.
I agree. The electors should not have a choice. Each state should determine if they award votes proportionally or "winner takes all" and that's how the numbers should be tallied.
