The desperate need by Trump and his supporters for Trump to be viewed as the most popular is truly amazing. Looks like he came in 3rd since Reagan and 4th if we go back to Carter. Perhaps he should get a trophy for showing up.
I watched in 1984, because I had turned 18 in time to vote in that election, but not one since.
I guess it's history, but it's not a moon landing or the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The moon landing did not have a guy with fake arm. I noticed the odd way his arms were when it was live but it never occurred to me it was a fake arm. The woman to the right of him also has odd arm positions and it doesn't appear they move either.
I watched Carter's inauguration on TV at age 4 while sitting on a miniature rocking chair and enjoying my very first tuna salad sandwich. I will never forget that sandwich. I have loved tuna salad ever since.
It's difficult to drive by a horrific car accident and not want to look.
The high ratings don't indicate approval ya know.
The more important numbers (especially to trump himself) are those at the inauguration itself.
Making a trip to D.C. and all that it entails is not something done lightly. Turning on the t.v. is easy. The relatively small number of people actually at the inauguration is more telling.

I like that. Sweet. Carter was (is) a lovely man. A true Christian imo. He's done amazing work for so many, many years.
I remember that guy - Tariq Aziz. Yes, that poor man had to get up and lie like a rug for his boss. Now we have Sean "Tariq" Spicer.
Was that Bagdad Bob?
