A truly stupid move, but political expediency is what it is this year. I hope that he can gin it up again under some other name with a couple of the not so good provisions changed. If we don't get ahead of the game China is going to take our place and our lunch. Over the weekend, in fact, they ran a story in their government press about how western democracies have failed and the way forward is Chinese-style socialism to which they are ready to lead the world.

Ten years from now when these dingbats see the results of allowing China to define the terms of trade in Asia and much of the world...

Well done Trump, you are telling Asia to look to china for leadership. China will now define trade, the USA will get to watch and whine from the sidelines.

China is playing the long game, they KNOW they will be by far the biggest economy in the world. there is little doubt about it. The question is how do we ensure they play using rules we like...... well we use trade agreements. without them we have no control, no input , no influence.

China is simply thrilled to see Trump clowning around, we really needed some way to "exclude " china that is exactly what TPP was about. Now we will end up excluded, China will control the trade routes (don't fool yourself kids we can't win a conflict with china) near them and they will be writing the rules now that Trump has taken the ball and gone home.

Isolationists must be thrilled.
It's an agreement shaped by hundreds of corporate lobbyists. Not sure how this agreement would benefit us in anyway.

TPP was supposed to be canceled by Hillary after she decide to back away from it during the campaigns. Remember, GOP House minority leader Cantor lost his bid for re-election because of TPP. The GOP wanted it and Obama was willing to sign a GOP backed deal.

Trump is a man of his word, now on to building the Wall.

Exaggerate much?

The TPP doesn't bar China from trading with other States.

Giving China room to thrive economically? Despite all the semantics, the US do not want China to thrive that much. It's important that the USD stays the world currency, and China putting its own free trade zone means that it might establish the Renmibi as a major trade currency, in a far bigger scale as it is right now.

Those things need to be controlled if people really believe it's America first. But I guess that is just semantics for many and limited to what they see in front of their eyes, instead of the big picture...

No, but it does give China legitimacy to establish a zone where it's the leader. TPP was openly excluding China, and offending them, but for a reason.

Anyway what's done is done, let's see how it turns out for both China and the US.

No one believes in ending all trade deals. The question is why the USA writes trade deals that decimates our working class while benefiting other countries. You can have balanced trade deals. I have no problem with Mexico or China but it's not our job to create their jobs. Allowing factories that leave the USA to the border region in Mexico and get no tariffs was an act of treason.
