You do realize there is not an established recognized language in America like there are in other countries right?

America is a melting pot. We are not like other countries such as China, Mexico, etc. where there are official languages of it.

My ancestors came from England.

Well, some came from the Netherlands, but I don't know Dutch. It's easy to read, but hard to pronounce.

A coworker told me a story that where he worked Mennonite employees were told not to speak in Pa german but Spanish speaking employees could speak Spanish. Whoa, somebody should have gotten those mennonites to lawyer up and take that company for some $$$$. But that isn't their way.

That's fine. You can speak English and as such the rest of us aren't forced to accommodate/translate everything we do into Spanish. I have no problem with people speaking whatever language they choose in their personal lives.

English is still our national de facto language even congress declared it so. Half of our states have made English their official language. We are under no obligation to pander to anyone who can't speak English. The melting pot means melting into the mainstream culture not standing out and being different or divisive.

I have another example. Where my wife used to work they had a rule that only English could be spoken on the clock. Breaks and lunches were the exception. It was posted on a bulletin board and a Spanish speaker ripped it off cause she didn't like it (she knew how to speak English, however). It was reported but the company backed off to appease the bruised widdle feelings of the Spanish speakers that worked there.
