There is a difference between not doing the Federal Governments work and blatantly defying federal law. Yes, I would expect them to comply with federal law. You can not declare yourself a sanctuary to illegal aliens and then pretend you are complying with Federal immigration laws which apply to all states equally. You either comply with federal laws or you don't. Cities are not countries or independent entities that can do whatever they want to because they don't want to follow laws. There are consequences for doing so.
Kim Davis (democrat) was also not above the law.

What a mess of an argument. A round about argument with no on ramp. There is NO federal law that states that anyone has to enforce federal laws for them. The courts have even ruled that they are restricted in what they do here.

Kim Davis was a county clerk who thought she was working as a church secretary. Though she was hired by and paid by the county, she refused to do her job because she mistakenly believed she was working "under God's authority."

It appears Trump has a similar misunderstanding on how this chain of command thing works.

Trump does not have authority over mayors and local law enforcement.

Nor is it the job of local law enforcement to carry out immigration laws. It is the job of the federal government.

Man hasn't been on the job for a week yet and already he's gotten into it with nearly every foreign leader but Putin, and now all the mayors of the major cities and several of the smaller ones.

I don't know whether any city officials have specifically advertised that they are a sanctuary city. If they have, then yes, they could be in legal trouble.

What they do say is that their budget covers policing for city issues, and cannot stretch to also cover policing for federal laws. And in most cities I know about, it is perfectly true that they don't have the budget to meet their own identified needs, let alone the needs of other LE agencies.

People advertising that Blah City is a sanctuary city are usually private citizens and/or organizations.

I don't know of any mayor or sheriff that is encouraging people to come here illegally.
They are encouraging them to reside in their communities by the sheer fact of being a sanctuary city.

Some could take it that way but all they are saying is that they will not enforce federal law for the federal government.

If they wont enforce the law, the gov needs to start taking on sworn deputies to go into the sanctuary cites and clean them up...one way or another...Blackwater style.
