Gross, you mean people actually eat that stuff. When grocery shopping, I read the labels, Mexican produce is easy to avoid. The farmer's market is good too.
I do the same. Whenever possible I avoid any food that comes from Mexico.

If you're unhappy with the quality and taste of tomatoes you may want to try heirloom tomatoes. My favorite heirloom variety is Oxheart and I love most organic heirloom cherry and yellow pear tomatoes. If I wake up early enough tomorrow I'll pick some up at the farmer's market. There is one vendor that has the best hydroponic tomatoes and lettuce but I have to get there before 9 as some local restaurants buy them out early.

Yes. But the bulk of your farmland has been repurposed for corn and soy only. You aren't growing food that actually feeds peoplenany more in bulk. The Midwest is capable of producing tasty summer and fall produce. But the growing season is short. Soil that has been growing depleting soy and corn exclusively does produce tasty stuff. And winter is a wash.

Sorry. There was some miscommunication. My original comment was related to growing produce, not purchasing it somewhere. Yeah - berries freeze nicely. I have some in the freezer at the moment.

Sorry but farmers markets and your local grocery store especially all buy from the same vendor during the freezing winter months. During the rest of the year, late spring and summer months, there are about 40% of locally grown produce, Peaches, Strawberries and all the stuff coming from grow houses in California.

Mexico farmers grow foods year round for supermarkets all over the world and in the USA. All this as been happening at least on a huge scale since at least the year 1994.
