California has frequently tried to seced over the years but they might just get enough votes to do it now using Trump to fuel the cause.

"Supporters of a plan for California to secede from the union took their first formal step Monday morning, submitting a proposed ballot measure to the state attorney general’s office in the hopes of a statewide vote as soon as 2018."

They say Californians are culturally different from the rest of the country, and that national media and organizations routinely criticize Californians for being out of step with the rest of the U.S.

^I knew they'd try this again after Trump won. They are always trying to leave.
Just let go....and let them go in the process. But don't take them back until after they've figured out a way to unwind all their debt and vastly reduce their state workforce.

I wish California would stop the empty talk, and go through with their threat. They are just like their celebrity friends- they didn't go to Canada. They are "big hat, no cattle"!

California paid $456 billion in federal taxes in 2014. Thats roughly the size of the ENTIRE GDPs of Michigan or North Carolina.

Losing that much coin wouldnt 'sit well' in DC.

They can leave the union but the property stays. They could be herded south of the wall. There they can wave the Mexican flag and no one will care. Its a win - win for everyone.

Those crazy Kalifornians.

Let them leave. They're kinda "off kilter," anyways.

Fun fact: California is the "youngest" part of the county, along with perhaps Hawaii, as Westernmost points in Continental USA (not AK or HI) as evidenced by the zip codes that start with 9. And they think they can tell us ALL what to do.

Why Russia Loves the Idea of California Seceding - POLITICO Magazine

This is why Russia is always propping up independence movements in the West ... but heaven forbid anyone bring up Crimea, Chechnya, Siberia (ethnic Siberians want out), or Kaliningrad.
You won't convince double digit IQ Republican voters. This entire Alt-Right movement was started in Russia. It's Russian propaganda playing on the fears and insecurities of whites. Ever notice how in these circles, Putin is treated like the spiritual leader of the movement? They see him as the defender of White Christiandom (TM). Of course Putin doesn't give a crap. He's using the old British Empire strategy of divide and conquer

$456 billion will go a long ways to solving their problems. One will likely be installing desalination plants like Israel has.

Joe Vogler used to run on the Independence Party ticket in Alaska and got a fair number of votes. Many in Alaska would like to get out of the U.S. Not a majority though.

My understanding is that though there is a process for joining the union enshrined in the Constitution, there is no process in the Constitution to get out. As I recall from my Alaska days, an amendment would have to be passed and that's a high bar.

Though if enough states wanted to leave and enough wanted to let them, might happen.

Read somewhere recently that Canadian pundits were offering to let Washington, Oregon, California and Minnesota join up with them.

Alas, nothing in the constitution on how to switch allegiance to another country either.
