In a two party system there is always a divide with extreme irrational people at the far ends of either spectrum spewing crap 24-7.
Fortunately though, those are "Thems" and there are a whole lot of "We" like myself that don't blindly choose sides, we're just not vocal.
We the people can have an impact on shouting down the extreme ones. It is, however, like I've mentioned. The loudest and most histrionic gets the most attention. The irrational are the most likely to spout off at the mouth.

I am 33, old enough to remember when America wasn't divided like it is now. The Iraq Invasion of 2003 is when it got much worse, it somewhat eased until a couple years into Obama's election. 2014 is when the powder keg exploded over views on police, Muslim immigration, and gay marriage / transgender bathrooms. US is basically 45% Liberal, 45% Conservative, 10% Moderate, and Moderates determine the winner. They didn't like the Iraq War or Katrina response so they chose Obama. The last 2 years of Obama's term they didn't like the hard leftward push and went with Trump. (Hillary did get more votes than Trump but Hillary + Stein got millions fewer votes than Trump + Conservative non Trump candidates).

I'm turning 31 this year. We have always been this divided. Social media, the internet, and 24 hour news cycle just reflect what has always been there. There was so much division over the OJ Simpson trial. The Rodney King riots, which were over the police brutality.

Do you remember when Obama was president and all the Cons would blame him for literally everything negative that ever happened? If they slip on a banana peel they blame Obama. If they get stung by a bee they blame Obama.
I want to keep the tradition going. Let's blame Trump for literally EVERY bad thing that ever happens until he is out of office.
I understand your emotions.
But I just can't bring myself to be that stupid in public.
Obama is the one of the biggest reasons we have Trump in the first place. Obama had divided the country, and everyday politicians haven't gotten things done.
Trump's not at fault for anything. He's there to help fix things for us.

Then what do you call President Trump's nasty tweets and vulgar language? You call any of that uniting? What do you call some of President Trump's racially charged comments?
Blaming the presidents for all of the divides we have covers up one fact: We have always been like this, going back to the very founding of this country. The USA also broke apart. Something called The Civil War. This nation has always been divided. In earlier, people took up arms and killed for what they believed.

Trump is not here to unite that divide - he is here to put the white man back on top. That's the very basic non spoken truth. When 51% others was announced by pew and others on time magazine, the war was on from that side again. They see it as "their" country getting away from them. And I will add is not about skin or race, for Latinos are white, it's about the Conservative party, who somehow holds Americanism only for themselves. I saw a war movie last night and that win, and victory status -is what they want back. The problem it is not the " others" who took it away, but big corporations who have depleted America into a dust bowl with their crooked ways.
