I'm more surprised that people are so ignorant to the fact that we've had conversations like these for decades. Do you think this is the first time China has flexed military might toward the U.S.?
Every president has dealt with this, honestly people, a five minute history lesson would suffice.
If it wasn't China, it was someone else.
I don't recall anyone questioning whether war with China was imminent because of the bloviating of a US president before. Do you?
So do you think Americans should be worried about a war with China?
I hope not. China would be a formidable opponent. Any war is horror, but that one would be the worst of the worst. Many deaths, much suffering, property and homes and environment destroyed. Hundreds of thousands maimed and pyschologically damaged.
People who have never been involved in war, like Trump, may not realize the impact of it. If you want to avoid war, elect someone in the military. It looks possible that Trump will dig in, want to win on some minor point, and proceed to war without realizing (or caring?) how much it would damage us and our country, not to mention innocent Chinese.
There were Korean War and Vietnam War when China was still poor and backward, I don't see why not. I went to a speech by the author of Ghost Fleet. He talked about the danger of future wars. Military today has too much reliance on space and internet. If GPS satellites were disabled, most military hardware would not work. If hackers take down power grids, economy and society will collapse in weeks. When North Korean hackers attacked SONY pictures, the whole company went down for days.

Correct, in part, there would be a melding of the types of warfare. That said, we know they are interested in such possible attacks because with all the hoopla about the Russians trying to hack into election system many people missed the fact that they were also attempting to hack in our power grid, and there is only ONE reason to try that, to shut them down. People seems to forget how dependent the vast majority are on the power grid, you remove it for months or longer and the majority of Americans would be dead in a year, no invasion need. So since we know Russian is attempting this does anyone in their right mind think China is not doing the same. What is needed is some Nixon diplomacy unfortunately we have no Nixon, we have someone that believes in making threats and giving ultimatums before anyone even sits down to talk, and if this sort of tactic is continued we as a Nation are going lose, count on that.
Germany jumped the gun in 1939. Hitler got over confident, and miscalculated.
Had he remained on his original course of rearmament, and started his war of aggression six to ten years later than he did. He may have been unstoppable.
The Chinese are not stupid, and they have long memories. They are not our friends.
If we continue to cut back on our military, and technology, while China continues to build theirs, and develop new technologies, we'll find ourselves in the same position we were in the Pacific, 1942....... Fighting a holding action, while we hopefully gain time to catch up.
Can our current leaders remember the lessons of the past? Almost more importantly, will the American people be educated about those lessons of the past, or will they have to learn the hard way?
Our future challengers will remember those lessons, better hope we do as well.

Militarily speaking, Hitler was unstoppable. He just didn't understand what a Soviet winter was.
TPP was mostly designed to help US multinational companies extend their reach globally. Containing China is just a marketing term used by the politicians to get Congressional approval.

Uh; China's in a death spiral cause of its dropping working age pop since about 2011. Too; that country would need to get past Japan 1st.
China knows if it goes too far it loses its biggest customer and its people and factorys are shuttered.
