It's that the State knows best. Above any one and anything else, the State knows what's best.
And this CORE belief drives everything else. It is "the Debate" of our time.

I thought it was... If you don't get what you want then rant, rave and throw a fit. If that doesn't work break windows and burn that MF down.

Maybe they'll do what the Repubs started doing around 2010. Vote to get your party back in office. I hope not, option 1 is working so well.

Obtaining money and power by manipulating the bottom half of their voter base and by hiding behind words like diversity, tolerance, equality, etc.

The big government is not there to serve the people. It's there to line their pocket with tax money.

Generally speaking, the moral principles that underlie liberal ideology are compassion and fairness, while for conservatives, they are loyalty, authority, and purity.* There is some overlap, but by and large those on opposite ends of the political spectrum prize different moral principles, and that difference drives how the groups view both domestic and foreign policy. It is very difficult if not impossible to bridge the gap when the groups are in conflict resulting from their commitment to these principles. As a friend likes to say, "I cannot change the way I think."

For more information about this subject, I recommend the writings of Peter Hays Gries.
