Even if only 1% of those users were exploited enough to actually see misleading content (often shared amongst their social circle), that is still hundred of thousands of people.
Lots of people like to pull the "I was not tricked by Facebook" - well great, good for you. Even if you somehow were never exposed to misleading and false content somewhere (there are other places on the Internet to see these content...), many other people were.
And content shared on social media is very powerful. Especially if it confirms preconceived notions and biases. We like seeing content that agrees with our world view.

The company also has ties to Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former White House adviser Steve Bannon, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and mega GOP/Trump donor Robert Mercer.
Donald Trump will face impeachment once evidence from a computer server in Trump Tower comes to light, according to the latest analysis by British journalist Louise Mensch, who first exposed the existence of a secret FISA court warrant that targeted the private server. That Trump Tower server was communicating regularly with the Russia-based Alfa Bank. The FISA surveillance warrant granted last October was designed in part to find out why, and if the server indicated improper ties between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia, Mensch reported last November.

Lots of connections - firm owned by the Mercers (financiers of Bannon, Breitbart and much of the other right wing world). Russian researchers involved.
They (legally) gathered data for research..or under the guise of research, but were specifically disallowed from passing on the data. Instead, they used it for the Trump and Brexit elections.
Just this would have probably swung both elections...let alone all the other fake news and lies and Putin financed scheme.
It's a big deal. But most people probably won't understand it - some will, tho.
So my question is what is the problem?
The world is changing. Apparently the Trump campaign utilized Cambridge Analytica to their advantage. And it worked.
There are a number of reasons why Trump won the election as all this stuff comes out its obvious it has little to do with Russia / Putin or racists.
Trumps people were more high tech and forward thinking than Clinton's people were and it paid off in the end.
If the dems want to win in 2020 they need to absorb all of this and learn from it. Just stammering and stomping your fist and declaring Trump is bad wont get it done. It did not in 2016 and won't in 2020. I see little from the left to indicate they have learned much from the experience.
I thinks it's pretty obvious why the House shut down the Investigation now!!
If the Trump campaign received information stolen by Russian hackers via that Trump Tower server that's a violation of the law and further proof of a co-conspiracy.
