Oh dear.

Such is the twists and turns of world politics.

https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/r...230034474.html

Quote:
Back in the 1980s, the US supported Afghan "freedom fighters" against the Soviet Union. Those fighters later morphed into the Taliban. And now, the Russians seem to be returning the favor.

Moscow said last month it was in contact with the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan, with the stated reason being that Russia was sharing information and cooperating on strategy to fight the local ISIS affiliate there, according to The Wall Street Journal. So far, cooperation apparently doesn't involve cash or guns.

But it understandably has US commanders there spooked.
And this:

Quote:
Surprisingly, even Taliban officials say the excuse of offering help to fight ISIS doesn't add up. Two officials disputed that characterization, including the group's spokesman, who told Reuters that "ISIS is not an issue." In fact, both groups forged a shaky truce in August 2016 to turn their guns away from each other, and instead target US-backed Afghan forces.

"In early 2008, when Russia began supporting us, ISIS didn't exist anywhere in the world," one senior Taliban official told Reuters. "Their sole purpose was to strengthen us against the US and its allies."

Nope it is part of Putin's plan to destabilize the west in order to improve his position and rebuild the USSR through force. First he needs to pit the USA against the EU, what else did you think he was doing??

He also needs to break up NATO and, the EU the UN. Eliminate any alliance that might stand in his way.

Or it's part of Putin's plan to prevent the US from achieving its Geo-Political Strategy and destroying Russia.

As I have commented repeatedly, US Geo-Political Strategy is simple:

Step #1: Drive Russia out of the Mediterranean Region by denying them any potential allies where Russia could port ships or have forward operating bases (for aircraft) and exert influence or interfere with the US:

Yugoslavia: Castrated and Regime Change effected
Libya: Regime Change effected
Tunisia: Regime Change effected
Syria: In Progress
Yemen: In Progress

Step #2: Gain rail, air and highway access to Central Asia via the Persian Gulf/Arabian Sea/Indian Ocean

Iran: Pending

Step #3: Gain control of at least 3 of 5 Central Asian States and set up pro-US puppet-governments

Kazakhstan: Pending
Turkmenistan: Pending
Uzbekistan: Pending
Tajikistan: Pending
Kyrgyzstan: Pending

Step #4: Arm, train, equip, supply and fund rebel groups in the eastern Russian republics just like you armed rebel groups in Syria:

Altai: Pending
Tuva: Pending
Buryatia: Pending
Khakassia: Pending
Sakha: Pending
Far Eastern: Pending

Of course. And he is using Donald Trump and European far right break apart NATO. Trump himself has no prior idealogy nor understanding of foreign affairs or NATO. The derisive things we heard him say about NATO during the campaign and now in office are the result of the multiple Kremlin friendly advisors in his inner circle.

Russian actions in the middle east have nothing to do with ISIS of course. Putin wants to protect Assad in Syria and see the US further bogged down in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile the idiot child in the White House who managed to trick a stupid populace into voting for him, gets into Twitter wars with various Hollywood celebs. Putin will run circles around Trump and Trumps closest advisors are there to ensure it happens
