I was surprised. Then again, some of the things that Trump has done have been extreme and hastily done, seemingly without much thought and without advice from experts, it seems. So I guess just to calm people down about the protests, it's okay.
This is an historical time. First time our country has banned others because of religion. And first time our country has had so many people protest after an election and inauguration and an Executive Order. Three times.
What does Obama think are "true American values"? If you can point to his answer to this, I will provide counterpoints
That said, he did his best to ruin the country. For example, he sued states that made laws that were tough on illegals while allowing sanctuary jurisdictions to exist (in violation of federal law). His DOJ was thoroughly corrupt. He told the Border Patrol and ICE to not do their jobs. He killed 287(g). He told local jurisdictions that if they arrest an illegal to never charge them with a felony, to bump it down to a misdemeanor so that they could one day get amnesty.
Just a few links to get you started^^^. Thumbing one's nose at our laws certainly doesn't represent "true American values" to me. Does it to you?
I won't speak for Obama, that's not my job. What he said was that what Trump is doing is not consistent with American values, and what the protesters are doing is. You seem to indicate that he's wrong. And I don't really care what he did in his presidency, becasue in this discussion, that's unimportant. Only in his comments on this issue, are his actions relevant. So I ask again: what are American values and how do they line up with Trump and the protests?
They are all very true, however, everyone has their "American Values". There are about 300M types.
Sadly, I actually kind of think you're right. I mean, big picture, American values, as in teh values that create this country, could never be described as this and if the founding fathers found out that this was the case, they'd likely all shoot themselves in the face knowing that their plan resulted in a failure, though not really of any fault of their own. The founding fathers understood, keeping up with the knowledge of basically all political theory prior to the 18th century, that you cannot have politics when a populace is only concerned with the self. It does indeed seem that currently, the self is all most people are concerned with, which kind of explains the current political climate.
