I think there needs to be a hold on all immigration so we can review our process to insure we are letting in people who want to be American, who want to assimilate to our system of government and our culture and will not be a burden on our society.
We have had years where we let people in who don't even like America and they refuse to assimilate. These people need to be turned away to make room for people who truly do respect liberty and freedom and don't see the US as a place where they can bring in their culture and demand submission.
At the present moment, and for some time, I have been in favor of a lengthy ban on all immigration. Truthfully, I only prefer European immigration if there is to be immigration, but at the current time I don't even want any immigration. The notion that we are a country of immigrants is antiquated!

Keep only student, work (highly skilled labor) & tourist visas. Definitely get rid of refugee programs. Make vetting process very thorough & family immigration (siblings, not spouse or kids) very expensive & lengthy. Impose stricter welfare & healthcare laws for immigrants as that would reduce illegal immigration.
If they develop new manufacturing industries that will employ people and export products to overseas markets, then yes, they should be given American citizenship. Pay up, that is fair.
