It's just grandstanding on both sides. The Dems can't do anything to stop any of these confirmations, they must have known that if they boycotted the Repubs would suspend the rules, maybe hoping it will make GOP look bad.
Just wondering - are any of these cabinet nominees really so awful that no Democrat would vote yes, or so wonderful that no Republican would vote no? Whenever I see strict party line votes I feel that these politicians are putting party above country.

It's rule changes by the Democrats that have put them in the position that they have to take radical steps like boycotting these hearings. I'll also remind you that these things did not occur for Obama even with the 60 vote rule. It's because of their actions they are powerless to stop anything, the Democrats need to grow up and stop acting like children because at this point they are only holding things up.

On a side note in one way I'm actually enjoying this. This will not play out for them well in the end.

Generally speaking in the past both parties deferred to the President unless there was some glaring issue about a nominee. Whatever the case they are powerless to stop anything unless a few Republicans jump ship.

So basically you are deflecting that you have nothing to refute my point?

And the Republicans acted like brats by not confirming Obama's choices. Toddler like behavior happens on both sides of the aisles.

Lib revising history again

Obama had 7 cabinet appointments approved on his first day and had both his Supreme Court picks confirmed

You already did do such and you spit in the face of everyone who objected, now you are whining about your own antics being turned against you.

What? We were supposed to "play nice" when you weren't? Sorry, we have been doing that for too long and all it did was get sand kicked in our face. What goes around, comes around.

Democrats do this all the time. When they can't accomplish what they want through the system, they throw a wrench in the gears and try to bring it to a grinding halt.

Remember the so-called "sit-in" for gun control on the House floor? They didn't have the votes to advance a bill, so they shut the whole House down. Rules and decorum are only proper as long as they are getting what they want.

This is what they do. I don't like the idea of stripping the minority of it's power by changing rules because checks and balances are important, but when you have a minority that refuses to work with you and work through the proper channels, you got to do what you've got to do in order to govern. Maybe, if they don't like the nominees they are getting, they should try winning an election so they can make the appointments themselves.

Hard to believe these people are in the Senate. This is KINDERGARTEN behavior. Boycott the committee meetings, in the hopes that what might happen?
Trump won. Elections have consequences. If the democrats are mad that:

* Trump won
* Trump selected the supreme court nominee
* The supreme court has had a vacancy for a year
* The filibuster is about to be done away with for SC nominations

Then I invite them to think about the following

* Trump won because your party nominated a criminal corrupt candidate who was lazy to boot
* To the winners of the elections go the spoils AND elections have consequences (B.H. Obama)
* Schumer in 2007 already laid the groundwork for delaying a SC nominee when he said that George W Bush would not get to put someone on the court before the election of 2008
* The democrats did the exact same thing a while back with all other judicial appointees, eliminating the filibuster so that they could move their picks through. Called reaping what you sow!!!
