The Democratic party is not more "leftist radical." They only appear that way because the nation has veered hard right, and now anybody who isn't licking Trump's boots is a "left-wing commie socialist?!" or some nonsense.
We've got right-wingers praying to Trump, claiming there is nothing he can do to cost him their support, and demanding mindless allegiance from everyone in the nation. To disagree with Trump is "treason" in the eyes of the right-wing sellouts, who are coddling a man-child they wouldn't have trusted with their money, house, or wife only a few years ago.
Ask yourself when the Republican party sold out to the theocratic toads, white supremacists, war-mongers, and hate-spewers. THAT is the question, for it is Trump and the worst of his horrid cronies who are the extremists, not the boogieman of "the radical left" that is often talked about on silly forums like this one, but never found.
All you're doing is proving beyond a doubt how out of touch with reality and leftist radical liberals have become. You clearly have absolutely no idea what anyone outside of your echo chamber thinks about anything.
That was going to be my response. I do think it was around the time Pat Buchanan gave a speech at the Republican Convention. Was that 92 or 96? At least that was when being far right became more accepted.
I actually think the far right and far left are in the vast minority. They're just very loud. Meanwhile, the other 80% of us -- and we can argue about that number -- are somewhere in the middle, Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike.
It's more like 40/20/40, maybe 45/10/45 - just look at how close elections always are - and based on your posts you're in no way part of the "us" in the middle 10 or 20.
One can tell the Democratic Party is quite different today than in the past. The Bill Clinton years for example were much different. Even the early Obama years. Now Dems seem to be very far to the left. When do you think this shift occurred and what caused it?
Looking at the behavior of the party during the election and also after Trump's election really makes me glad Hillary didn't win and that they don't have the House or Senate.
I'll make an educated guess that as the Republicans pulled more to the right - possibly beginning with Gingrich, the Dems may have started pulling more to the left, as a response.
I sure hope you're kidding, if you think that it was the Democrats who were behaving badly during and after the election. Surely if you're old enough to recall the Clinton years, you know perfectly well that no candidate has ever been so vulgar, so insulting, so threatening to his opponents, so mendacious, so misogynistic, so self-aggrandizing as Trump.
1. Forcing everyone at gunpoint to pay for my free stuff.
2. Identity politics, either class, race or gender.
#1: What "free stuff" are you being forced to pay for?
#2: So the Republican party doesn't play "Identity politics, either class, race or gender" either?......The party of so called "freedom" that wants to restrict abortions and gay rights?
Did you forget that the President leads a party that questioned the birth of our first black President?

Let me guess everything short of the total corporate rule and semi fascist social Darwinian paradise is left wing radicalism in your corner of the woods?
