How did America become a rich and powerful country?

1. some of the greatest engineers we've ever had had ancestors who came from countries like Ireland or Germany.

2. America's system of merit also works. One of the reason why most empires such as Britain are vestigial now is because of incompetent rulers who wasted their nation's finances and appointed the wrong advisers simply due to political connections. In America, you are allowed to rise and fall on your work ethic.

3. Free market system works. In old time Europe, most services were completely controlled by one guild or merchant, who restricted trade and competition. In America, anyone can start a business that can compete with other companies.

4.Massive land and fertile crops is also a factor.

Sure, it is a global market, however, if we stop buying all their stuff, who are the Chinese going to sell it to? There is no other market like ours available to Chinese exporters. They would be in a big economic down turn very quickly because huge numbers of Chinese would lose their relatively well paid jobs.

At least, Steve Bannon got that right, the past 20 something or 30 something years, we create a solid Asian middle class. and look at where we are now.
Source? Especially for our great engineers coming from countries, "like Ireland or Germany" - (And not Breitbart - look for something more authoritative, please)

The fact that it is a "global" market assumes on it's face that there is someone else to sell to. Yes, we are large, but India and China are much bigger markets. As they become more advanced, we will be a very small market in comparison.

The U.S. has a population of 321 Million people. South America has a total population of 371 Million. Taken as a whole, it is a bigger market. So, why do they need us again?

They have less money than us though. The U.S. is the most important market. That's what Trumps point is the U.S. doesn't take advantage of it's own power it lets other countries take advantage of us, and use us. Trump views dealing with other countries as a business deal. In a business deal you don't make the deal unless you are getting just as much out of it, or more, then the entity you are dealing with. That's exactly what China does.

Keep thinking in such elitist terms..... you'll eventually wake up to find reality will swamp you....

Arrogance has become the downfall of many..... people once-upon-a-time had those very same thoughts about the "Honda vehicle" (Read and Learn)
When you finish go back and look at Volkswagon..... (Read and Learn)

At some point American People whom have their minds lost in nostalgia's delusion and fictions of over elated concepts of self importance, has to become wiser rather than fighting what will eventually become undeniably a part of American's available choices and options.

these types have held the country back, stagnated its growth and supported its programmed industrial demise, and still they fail to learn.

In 10-25 yrs, although most likely far less, these stagnaters will have passed away, and America will go on to show its flourishing within the world of nations in which the newer generations will have created, as those who understand that grandstanding, gloating, bias and such things wins nothing, nor will they be willing to allow belligerent driven arrogance to be any elements that cripples and trips up this nations from moving forward.

whether China builds its vehicles in China or Mexico, they will still have to pay the import tariff to import them into the USA.... if China is looking to sell in the USA, then they should build the plant in the USA

Trumps plans are a heck of a lot better than the fascist globalist liberals plans

what part of the fact that these are most likely built for non-US markets do you not get? There is trade that doesn't involve the US..some Trumpsters need to understand that...
