When I say liberals I'am specificlly referring to those who believe in gov't playing a larger role with issues of poverty, healthcare, pensions etc.

Anyway, with there being a democratic president and a majority democratic congress on the surface this appears to be a good time for democrats especially liberals. But the problem I'am seeing is that since democrats tend to favor government programs of various kinds and these programs needing tax funding how will democrats deal with the fact that many programs are being affected by our current economic realities?

Democrats want gov't to play a bigger role in healthcare for example. But the CBO says it's not affordable basiclly. Democrats are also divided over healthcare. We all know that medicare and social security are in trouble. Demographic changes such as our upcoming large retirement population will affect the consumption of gov't services and the taxes needed to fund them. Then of course this current economic collapse combined with the others things I've mentioned seems to make liberal goals more complicated than expected. So how will democrats, especially the liberal wing, adapt their big gov't goals to current economic realities?

This elaborates a lil more.
Quote:
George Bush bequeathed to President Obama a nation heading slowly but surely toward fiscal disaster. Because of an aging population and rising health-care costs, spending -- primarily on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security -- will steadily rise in coming years, as the nonpartisan and authoritative Congressional Budget Office explained in a report last month. Revenue is not projected to rise nearly as quickly...

This is a pretty deep subject for liberals. You may have to wait until after Olbermann comes on tonight. Then the libs will have an "educated" opinion to put forth.

The CBO didn't say its not affordable. Where is that? Link please.

Where to get the money? Raise taxes on the wealthy. Tax employees to defer cost of governmental insurace plan if they are on the plan. Cut the military budget. Require every employee to have insurance.

When times get bad is precisely when we see a stonger clamoring for public services and govt regulation. People get scared when the "free market" hits the rocks and starts pooping on people who aren't used to being pooped on, which doesn't go over too well for very long.

Best example? The New Deal under FDR following the Great Depression. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, just like in physics.

So are they really scared in Sweden? A country that has a higher standard of living than we do? Without the natural resources we have?

They are totally all about big government.......is it that bad over there?...http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fAJIWY5uxM...dish+girls.jpg

How do you interpet this?

" But CBO officials warned the cost of the Democratic plan would likely increase if lawmakers expanded the eligibility of Medicaid or otherwise subsidized health insurance for people earning below 150 percent of the federal poverty level, or $22,000 for a family of four.

Henry Aaron, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, said the estimated expense will make it that much tougher for Democrats to pass. "

Liberals are doing exactly what some of us knew they would.

Over spend, over tax, destroy jobs, cause a recession, destroy our military, over govern, and a host of other mistakes.

Perfect timing, may be the end of the liberal party with this group of idiots who cannot seem to do anything right.

They might be the group to finally end liberalism in American once and for all so we can have a decent country again.
