There are so many issues that play into this I don't even know where to begin.
You have a population that goes to the doctor for every little ache and sniffle. Likewise, doctors will often service patients with unnecessary medication and appointments. Before you know it, people are hooked on these drugs, and committing crimes to either get more drugs or money to buy drugs. Pharmacy burglaries and robberies have become common.
Drug addicts are treated as criminals, and many are, but treatment for it as a health issue has been lax. In many of these areas, the economy is weak and frankly the lives of the people in the area suck, so they look for any easy out.
Many of the changes go way outside the scope of short-term politics.
The script problems are going away since doctors can't prescribe them like they did before. Aren't you aware of the new laws put in place to stop the pill mills? The REAL problem is the illegal heroin that is killing people. They are turning to heroin because the pills are too hard to get anymore and are more expensive.
Not aware of any tough laws, no. If so that's great news. I'd also like to see a crackdown on BS disability payment addicts too. Take away free money from free loaders buying all kinds of smack. No tears from me.
The heroin crisis is huge, so is meth, but I still don't buy into the lock them all up philosophy.
However if ex- prescription pain pill junkies are turning to street smack, I'd imagine a good % of them are going to OD and either die or go vegetable. That's a crisis where an addict has to WANT to get clean and work at it their entire lives. Jail won't solve it, rehab may help it, but ultimately the fate is in the hands of the addict themselves.
Sorry if reality hurts, but it's all over WV, not just Huntington. Coupled with the fact WV has the most people on 'disability' 1 out of 10, bottom ranked scholastic achievement, high rates of obesity and overall poor health- it's hard to dismiss the widespread drug abuse there. I trsvelled the state for business. It was rampant all over.
I had to live in Clarksburg for two years. My kids were in elementary school in Bridgeport. There was no way I wanted them to finish growing up there. No way.
You're full of #### you're probably in the oil and gas industry...you guys are the ones spreading all the drugs around in states like WV. We never had it before you guys came. You guys aren't called oil field trash for nothin'. How many times did you cheat on your wife since it's well known that's what you guys are best at.

Good to see you finally came to your senses, yes it's coming from Canada, why do you think the problem in Maine skyrocketed in the last 3 years? It sure as hell isn't coming from Florida. It's well known in eastern Ohio and northern WV that the supply being trafficked to those areas is coming from Michigan.
