So happy, that not only do Texan's have such a wonderful governor but they are treated to gasoline that $1 less then California.
National gas taxes are insanely low for where they should be, gas taxes are what has traditionally funded road construction and maintenance, but due to improving fuel economy and no politician having the backbone to raise the gas tax, revenues are falling short, hence lack of roads/lanes and the ones we do have falling apart. I'd still rather live in California than in Tex-a$$
Good idea by CA. The number of Texas toll roads and corruption in the toll road business to pay for new construction is insane. Much better to pay through taxes.
"There are approximately 25 current toll roads in the state of Texas.[1] Toll roads are more common in Texas than in many other U.S. states, since the relatively low revenues from the state's gasoline tax limits highway planners' means to fund the construction and operation of highways."

Adding to what FirebirdCamaro1220 stated:
Another effect of higher gasoline prices is people buy more efficient cars to save on money which has 1 positive effect: cleaner air and less air pollution.
So what do you want, clean air or lower taxes? I'd go for clean air even if it means jacking up gas prices to 3.50-4 a gallon.
California has about 250K electric cars on the road. Assuming they are driven 15K miles a year compared to average sedan powered with gas they are avoiding approximately 112 million dollars in taxes. Clearly that would not solve all their problems but it's a start.
