Born in Texas in the 1940's, lived my entire life here and traveled every part of the state.
"oil derricks" are old fashioned technology. The proper term is "drilling rig" and most of those are portable. Point is -- you will NEVER see anything like those in National Parks.
You CAN find those old derrick drilling rigs - but it's going to be in a Museum or a display of some sort.

Odd place for a derrick in the middle of La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, picture 1940.
The derrick was built in 1907 in a cotton field, the city grew around it.
What you DO see is a lot of pumpjacks - this one is from OK & pretty fancy. Most of the ones I see are in the middle of cattle or agriculture field and old. A lot of unfamiliar folks think these pumps are "derricks".
