The bill proposes only spouses and minor children of permanent residents could apply for green cards, bringing the number of immigrants allowed to live in the US each year to 500,000 from 1 million. A diversity visa lottery which grants visas to 50,000 immigrants would also be eliminated. The bill does not affect H1B visa holders.

So the party of family values will reduce family-based visas, yet keep the business-related ones? Ah well.

As for the Green Card lottery, yeah - that's low-hanging fruit.

Yes, but somehow conservatives have gotten stuck on the illegal aspect of the immigration issue and haven't even considered the legal immigration system. So as can be seen in this thread, few have thought it through, and people are all over the place on the issue.
