Because this is 2017. There is nothing "unraveled" about me creating a topic concerning the present. You should have been clear that you were talking about the South of more than a 1/2 century ago.
And when you do. Make sure that you take notice that those votes you speak of were made by Democrats at the state level. North Carolina, where I live for example, was completely controlled by the Democrat party in 1964.

On the contrary, I give President Johnson much credit, have done so here in the forum, although it may have been history forum. He was extremely instrumental, he knew where his fellow Southern Democrats were coming from & used rational persuasion. It's been said, & I tend to agree, that he was more successful in doing so than President Kennedy would've been had he been allowed to live.
I hope the Democrats keep putting Elizabeth Warren, Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters on display. It's good for the Republicans.
I know this is terribly off-topic, but this comment made me think of The Three Stooges, they can be a 21st-century, female-gendered version, with Warren, the mean bully type as Moe, Waters the airhead with the hair as Larry, and Pelosi as Curley, woo-woo-woo.

Are we ignoring the concept of Dixiecrats in here?
Perhaps some are. What stands out the most for me, is many folks seem downright uncomfortable even considering the 1960s Civil Rights movement.
Admittedly, when I read about & speak to people who were there, I'm sometimes left stunned & speechless. The deaths by assassinations & stomach-churningly worsened when considering the lynchings preceding. It does no one any good to normalize or minimize these - these were not normal period.
Thank the Gods progress has been made since those days.
