The Bowling Green "massacre" is a perfect example WHY the travel ban is such a terrible idea. Not vetting, mind you, nor restricting visas either individually or total numbers. But a "ban" splashed all over the world news with photos of stranded passengers and the like.
How did Bowling Green start? One of the Iraqis was a bad guy, who made the mistake of bragging about past activities in Iraq to someone in the local community -
who turned him in to the FBI. So the FBI set up a sting operation. The money and weapons that the Iraqi and the accomplice he recruited thought they were shipping to Iraq were retained by the FBI. The two men were arrested in the US during the sting. And remain here in prison.
Folks tend to react the way you treat them. It's human nature. Many officials say that it's essential the local and offshore Muslim community be part of the fight against terrorism. Bowling Green is the proof.
