The White House has an Office of Protocol. The Chief of Protocol has always briefed Presidents on how to properly greet heads of state. Either that position has yet to be filled or Trump thinks acting oddly is business as usual.

I think for people who hate Trump, they would always have something bad to say about him no matter what he did.
I swear somebody (not you) cannot wait for a WW3. They want America to be an enemy with the rest of the world. The far left and the far right are both like that, they are domestic enemies.
A couple of things: that expression may not mean what we think it means. He's Japanese and their are cultural differences.
And of course, it was probably just a reaction to that situation. That long handshake isn't uncommon in that situation, which is just a facade for the cameras. It's to show the illusion of power, like public displays of affection or public prayer. No handshake is any other scenario is like that.
I do support it's possible Trump was trying some power play by forcing the handshake to go on. I'm guessing it didn't work.
