Honestly I wish they would do more of a "black American food" themed week at work and give us luncheons every day.
Callipoppy is making me hungry.
I do consider southern food to have black cultural influences so don't take offense to the term "soul food." And I don't know too many whites who make greens like black people either FWIW. I was very impressed by our luncheon because the greens were really good. I actually don't particularly like collards. I like mustards, turnips, and kale (before it became a hipster/foodie fad - it was my grandmother's favorite green and she grew it in her garden so we ate it all the time). The caterer made some mixed greens with collards and turnips and they were really good. They also had smoked turkey instead of pork for flavor.
I have some friends from Louisiana who make very good gumbo and not only black people make gumbo either and it is also a "southern" food. My favorite person from LA (a very good friend) is white and makes the best gumbo I've ever had.
I also love "soul vegetarian" food. The one in Atlanta in the West End neighborhood was my favorite when I first went there to college in the late 90s.
because they are white or is that what white people eat?
anyway, thats racist! LOL.
Ill take the catfish and grits. The white bread and mayo is probably just as unhealthy.
