We have Clinton's stance on illegal immigration ... now here's Sen. Obama from 2005 doing his best Donald Trump impersonation...

These are views that used to be normal on both sides of the aisle. What happened?

Nothing happened. As recently as 2013 Obama asked for funds to build a wall, boost border patrol, and get National Guard involved, but he was denied the funds. You can do these things without insulting people and using fake news to build a case for it. He deported 2.5 million people, but you don't hear complaints because a large percentage of them were criminals, and everyone agreed the criminals need to go.

Insulting people... did I miss something? Because I said he was doing a Trump impersonation? I should have said Trump is doing an Obama impersonation?

So why is Trump evil for this ban, but not Obama? Something happened - because no one protested Obama?

Maybe because he deported them, and they came right back in because he told the CBP not to do their jobs...

What ban? I just explained it to you that there is a right way to do things, and the wrong way. Just get rid of the real criminals, and build a wall, no need to make it sound like they are all rapists and murderers.

Get the money from Mexico, and grab the shovels. What is he waiting for?

They denied the funds to build a wall, and funds for boosted border guarding. Personally I think the Republicans were happier complaining about the immigrants and doing anything about it.

I also remember the weekly anti-war demonstrations up in my neck of the woods disapperared after Bush went out and Obama came in.

Illegal immigration became a tidal wave in the 80's. Amnesty was granted to millions and their offspring. Promises were made about securing the border and imposing consequences on those who employ undocumented immigrants.

Sanctuary cities/ counties began to sprout all over the US including in states with majority Republican leadership/ legislature.

Those promises were not acted on and the can started kicking.

Bush 2 campaigned twice on Immigration Reform, including Amnesty, a wall, E- Verify. His own party did not support. They did however fund the Bush Wall that greatly exceeded cost projections. Eminent Domaine became protracted and costly. Politically connected landowners were given exemptions and thus that wall contains Mike's of gaps to accommodate a University, Country Clubs, Resorts, HOAs and other private land owners.

Illegal immigration peaked in 2005/6 with the housing bubble. Just who do people think built hundreds of thousands of new homes during the bubble?

And this is the legacy challenge Obama inherited.

The bipartisan Senate Immigration Plan called for a wall and making E- Verify mandatory and increased spending on ICE and border patrol. It also created a pathway towards citizenship for non- criminal illegal immigrants because it's not realistic to deport 11-12 million people. The House declined to put it to a vote to protect members from taking a public position.

And here we are and somehow, many persist with the false perception it's all Obama's fault.
