He has been trying to get it done for 10 years with no success, and now with the power and authority if the presidency behind him, he finally succeeded.
It helps being the president.
It's a trademark, a trademark he applied for 10 years ago.
SHANGHAI – China has awarded President Donald Trump a valuable new trademark. The win comes after a 10-year dispute and raises a host of ethical questions about the president's foreign intellectual property.
Note that this comes after Trump backed down on trying out the two China policy.
The fact that this decision comes just days after a conversation between President Trump and President Xi Jinping where President Trump reaffirmed the U.S. policy of ‘One China’ is even more disturbing as it gives the obvious impression of a quid pro quo.
Note that this is probably a conflict of interest.
Richard Painter, chief White House ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush, called the situation "highly improper." Since foreign governments know Trump cares deeply about his family's business, Painter said, "they will give him what he wants and they will expect stuff in return."
Not particularly pertinent, but I thought this was funny:

The company applied for its Trump mark in 2002. The Chinese name brings together ideas of innovation and popularity and has nothing to do with President Trump, said Zhong Jiye, another founder. And in English, the "U'' makes a nice toilet-seat shape for their logo.

People use Trump toilets some 100 million times a year, said Zhong Jiye
This deal is 10 years old, or didn't you read the article?
China has awarded Donald Trump a 10-year trademark for construction services in his own name, a decade after the businessman began his attempts to have the measure approved.
Let's also remember that Trump never said he wouldn't honor the one China policy.
It is a bit suspicious that it was approved NOW just days after he talked to them and said he would continue the one china policy. Also note that he managed to push out a competitor who had already applied for the trademark and since China generally does a first come, first served trademark, they upended their policy for him.
Quote:
Trump applied for rights to the Trump mark for construction services on Dec. 7, 2006, but a man named Dong Wei had filed a similar application about two weeks earlier. China works on a first-come-first-served basis for trademarks, and the Trademark Office rejected Trump's application.
You lefties are nuts. Getting a trademark is not a business deal. It only gives the company exclusive rights to use its own name and prevents others from stealing it, something the Chinese are known for.

Some people wont believe anything unless it comes from the mouth of Trump, Spicy, or Breitbart.
