What's in a name? A lot, according to a new study from researchers at Ryerson University and the University of Toronto, both in Canada. The study found that job applicants in Canada with Asian names — names of Indian, Pakistani or Chinese origin — were 28 percent less likely to get called for an interview compared to applicants with Anglo names, even when all the qualifications were the same. Researchers used data from a previous study conducted in 2011 where they sent out 12,910 fictitious resumes in response to 3,225 job postings.

So much for "model minority". I hate that phrase. But you'll get told by Trump supporters it's fake news and racism against Asians doesn't exist

I wonder what race of people are throwing Asian's resumes in File 13?

Must be those Canadian ghetto blacks up to their shenanigans again. Right?

I remember years ago there was another study. College professors in the US are also much more likely to respond to white males requesting for admissions in PhD programs.

I heard about this as well from HR ppl in the U.S. Folks with ethnic names, not just Asian names, get the short end of the stick when it comes to being called for interviews. Talk about discrimination!

But seriously, do you want to work for a company that doesn't look beyond your name?

If I have a friend named Jamal Jenkins or Bob Stewart, guess who's getting the job?

I know a dentist from Hong Kong. His first name is Italian and last name is Tom (definitely not Chinese).

I would guess it has more to do with a worry of not being able to pronounce the name correctly or to properly understand the person more than it does with racism. I know I often have difficulty understanding some foreign folks. And I am forever asking them to repeat themselves. Guess I'm racist.

I guess you don't get how stats work. 28% means 28% and no amount of blather changes that.
